And here I clicked on this thread thinking the poster "Thor" was announcing an impending sex change.

I've got a friend who says that she's upset about the change, and feels that most folks who are upset about Cap being "turned" black is because they are upset that their "light hearted family reading entertainment" is being being turned into a "serious, dark, political" comic. I've asked her just which Captain America in the last 5 years she's been reading that could be classified as "light hearted family entertainment"...

This woman isn't happy with the change and after reading what she wrote, I can't say I disagree with her.
"This ISN'T HOW YOU REACH OUT TO WOMEN, MARVEL. MAKE NEW FEMALE CHARACTERS THAT DON'T SUCK HOW ABOUT THAT. We have been complaining for YEARS about genderbent side-characters, like the only way to make a girl hero popular is for her to be "Super"girl or "Spider"girl or Hulkette or Miss Wolverine, when are you going to get it through your skulls that the way to get us to respect you is to make actual real new characters? You slate Black Widow and Storm and then you give us a reskin of a male character! What the f***? Isn't the fact that this is the wrong way common knowledge at this point? To the point where even you yourself shy away from using it as an example? F***'s sake."
|
Pretty sure I've seen more Supergirls than Storms at CCEE - which might actually be because Storm is black! And you know who else genderbends male characters? Women!
I don't know which "us" she's referring to but it certainly isn't all women.

I hope they title up coming movies "The new PC Avengers" and not just "The Avengers".
At least have some truth to the advertising.

Well the TV show actually had two Deathloks, though neither look like the original comic book version. Looks like they're moving ahead with the younger Deathlok though.
As for this Thor, is it confirmed that she will exist in the same universe as the Avengers movies? I would think these are two different Marvel universes that don't impact each other.

I never said her opinion was the same as every woman's. But it is an opinion by A woman which I thought was interesting to share considering the vast majority of the people commenting on this change are men.

Does it matter though? I think that's a valid point even if she's only speaking for herself.

It matters because "we women don't like this" is far stronger than "I don't like this".
She is, largely, expressing a preference for new characters.

And comics.
Speaking of Deathlok, I got Deathlok #1 hanging around somewhere. Wonder if it's worth anything.
I know the Marvel cards are worth crap. :/ Had the first two sets complete.

Semantics are important. Fuzzy-headed and imprecise thinking is what leads to people getting hot and bothered about what happens to comic book characters.

They gave a nod to the original look of Deathlok when they showed him in an xray shot.

Disney doesn't own the comic book franchise, just the movie one.
