Tom's own play? You mean dominating the AHL at a PPG pace the past season? He's going to be an NHL player. Maybe not a 40 point NHL player but likely at least a 20 point player. Which is why he was offered a 1 way deal.

20 points for a two way defenseman who isn't physical is pretty underwhelming. Sounds like Chris Butler to me (as his best case scenario)

Sure, I'm not saying he's lights out or anything. I'm just merely pointing out the myth and reality of the player. He played very well in the AHL this year, so well that he was given a 1 way contract. Sure not for big dollars, and it's not a huge vote of confidence but it's enough to say that Erixon is likely going to be a full time NHL player this year not an Alex-Plante-like bust.

Ben Street was "dominating" the AHL a over PPG pace: http://theahl.com/stats/statdisplay....id=-1&confId=0
On that list include "sure NHLers" like Tavis Morin, Zack Boychuck, Andy Miele, and Max Reinhart (and career AHLer Jason Jaffray, and now KHLer Stephane De Costa)...
Tom has no heart, and will likely rot in the AHL after several fringe NHL seasons.

Uh, Erixon is a defenceman.
I hate him, but he's been really strong in the AHL. Not many defenceman put up numbers like that at that age.

You likely haven't watched a single one of his AHL games. I highly doubt you've even seen him play much. This is the knee jerk response to any dman who has an offensive aspect to their game.

38pts in 40 games last year.
Pretty solid numbers. I was unaware until Tinordi brought it up.

Brennan has been a near point-per-game player in the AHL for a couple years, he's 25 (compared to Erixon's 23) and is still a fringe guy at best.
Not saying Erixon can't be more than that, but it's not exactly unheard of for fringe D to put up big offensive numbers in the AHL.

Brennan and Erixon were the only two who came close to a PPG last year.

I dunno tough for me to see this as anything but a one last chance show me contract. Ya maybe he had good numbers in the AHL, but if he was so stellar why wasn't he called up more? Why did he get a 1 year at minimum? Especially for a very young D man.
Sounds more like the team and player came to an agreement that he would take a pay cut and short term so it was a low risk to the team. In return he would get one last shot in the bigs with the team.
If he was a sure fire anything in the NHL, even a steady 7th D man he would have got more money and term. He didn't, so it looks like it is on Tom to prove one last time if he still has it or it might be KHL next year.

Why did you throw Reinhart into that list? He's still on his ELC and had a great 2nd pro season.
