25, 33, 30, 45 games.

That is the key thing that stands out to me.

Plus watching him play doesn't show him to be much of a top level goalie.

Only reason the games played are that low is because of Luongo/Brodeur.

Agree to disagree, he is definitely in top 3rd of NHL goalies, imo.

I agree games are not enough yet, but at least it's a steady rise and his other numbers remained pretty good.

Agreed, he also played in 30 of the Canucks 48 games in the lockout shortened season, prorated over a full year it would of been 50+ games.

He has been a really good goalie in small stretches, but he has never been "the man" and if he can't sustain his numbers over a full season the Devils will be in trouble. That being said I think he can, but weird to give him this kind of money first.

1 year left then UFA.

The Devils gave up a top 10 pick for him in 2013. Cant afford to let him walk and be left without a goalie.

I guess the thing that stands out to me the most is how come he didn't take
the de facto #1 spot any of those years.

Luongo was one if the best in the game early in Schneider's career.

He did take it in the lockout year and played more games.

He should have had it last year and played well enough too but Jersey kept giving starts to a fading Brodeur for unclear reasons (But those reasons weren't Schneider - he outperformed Brodeur)

Sometimes if you pay more you might get more. That must be the logic behind this one.

6 million for a goalie isnt really that high anymore. The 15 highest paid goalies in the league make 5 million or more

Of the top 15 goalie cap hits these ones are worse than Schieder
Ward
Crawford
Miller
Letonen
Varlarmov
Smith
Howard
Luongo
Fleury

Schieders case is a lot like Bobrosky's and that has worked okay. You cant compare every contract to the best contracts in the leauge like Quick's and Rasks. Against the top half of starting goalies this is a good deal. The length isnt even to bad compared to all of the others. They all have big term.

Schneider is technically phenomenal. The best way to describe it is to steal a line from Ray Ferraro and go with "economy of movement."

The issues with him are how he will handle the starting load, as he has apparently had issues handling stress while being the starter.

It's the contract length that would scare me. 7 years is a long time for a goalie to remain effective/relevant.

Solid contract Schneider is a very good goalie.

If that's how not to run a franchise, I don't know what success is.

Fair enough - I guess this deal (term more than money) and Kovalchuks contract where he would 11 million right now and the fines/financial troubles & the loss of 2 top draft picks stand out more than prior history.
It feels like forever ago they were even in the playoffs however I was wrong as they were in the finals only a few years back.

The guy plays well whenever his name is called. The term scares me but the money IMO is in the ballpark for a franchise goaltender. The only real unknown is if he can handle 60+ games (I don't see why he couldn't) and if he can it's a good deal for both parties.

What does this even mean? His numbers are solid which is all that matters.

This is a fair contract. An aging Ryan Miller got 3 years at $6M. New Jersey can't afford to have another core player leave via UFA for nothing. I bet a lot of Canucks fans are wishing they can have Schneider back at $6M a year rather than Ryan Miller.

I for one think Schneider is a top 10 goalie right now and has shown enough. Watch him play.

People referring to Ryan Miller as old and aging are out of it, dude is 33. That is not really old for a goalie. Argue Schneider has better skills/ability than Miller but leave age out of it.
