I lost my faith a long time ago, but I am not convinced that there is no possibility that a higher power of some kind is at work. There is just too much stuff that is beyond comprehension for me to write off that possibility. I guess I just have a hard time understanding those who are perfectly willing to do just that. I don't know the answers, so I can't say that some are definitely false. That's where I'm coming from.

Nothing gets under my skin more than people who define themselves by their religion though. Everything they do is for God and they sit in judgement of everyone else. That, is the inherent fault in churches. Churches are a hotbed for self-righteousness and prejudice. 2 qualities that are supposed to be anti-Christian.

I'm rambling now.
Or people who defines themselves by their lack of religion?

good post.

I wasn't aware that the religious right was so againast this book? I thought it was very interesting from a historical viewpoint. It was a fiction though. The only thing I heard from religious people was that they were concerned people were taking it as non-fiction is all.

I don't remember any embassies being torched or fatwa's declared?
maybe I missed it?

I read it. I didn't like his writing style. The regular flashbacks were annoying. Interesting plot, but pure fiction.

And for some good info on phi, see The Straight Dope

I liked both of the books discussed in this thread (Angels and Demons as well as the DaVinci Code).

Both were enjoyable reads.

Did you guys and gals know that stuff from uni or HS or just life?
I took some University courses (Math) which had units on the Fibonacci Sequence.

I guess from an Art History perspective.. Dan Brown is full of shingaurd. His "facts" are about as made up as you can get.

Dan Brown pushes facts to boundries and adds a little more to them. Like all good fiction writers. I liked both his books! I also read Holy Grail/Holy Blood and Decoding the DaVinci Code.

Both very interesting.

Different strokes for different folks obviously but "Angels and Demons" is the worst book I have ever read.

I kept reading to see if it would get any worse and I wasn't disappointed.

The "Da Vinci Code" was a decent pageturner but that other one, yeesh. I did not like it.

Speaking of religion, this Dan Brown guy now has more money than god.

I've always been a sucker for those mainstream writers.

I've read so many Tom Clancy books.
