He's getting a boat load of cash in the form of a buyout from the Rangers. Money at this point probably was not that big a deal with Richards when he was looking another team to sign with. In the end it gave him the opportunity to choose the team he felt gave him the best chance at a Cup.

From his mammoth contract to this one…pretty crazy and a great deal for Chicago. He doesn't really need the money, so had his choice of where to sign and be productive. He might find his scoring touch again on that team…watch out.

This is definitely one of the steals of the day. Not a superstar anymore but a phenomenal supplementary player on a stacked team.

I didn't think Richards would take a lesser contract because of his buy-out. I was obviously wrong. He's apparently hungry for another Stanley Cup after getting close again last season.

richards sucks. He's been living on fumes of that first half of the season with the stars before getting concussed. He's been relative crap since then when the chips are down.
On a team as tight-knit and as highly competitive (hate losing, it is clear) as the hawks, i won't be surprised if he's on the 4th line or scratched for a 3rd playoff year in a row.

Call him crap all you want but he is on a 2 mil contract. That's a good contract if you like him or not. He'll be one of the best players at that price ither than rookies

So far guys who have tried to cherry pick a trade or sign for a cup have failed. We shall see if this works out.

A move that Chicago needed to make but he isn't the same player he was.
Let's not forget that the Rangers had him on the 4th line at times in the playoffs.
Desperate move by Chicago after watching their division get much stronger over the last week.

He's still an improvement over Handuz so IMO they got better today.

People can say he sucks all they want but fact of the matter is he still had 51pts last year. At a price tag of 2 million he's very low risk very high reward. Chicago is a tight knit team with leaders and I think that's a situation that can reinvigorate a player. Richards isn't going to go in there and f the dog or try to play by his rules. He obviously went there to win and to have a bounce back season. Richards knows what it takes to win. I see this move paying off and if it doesn't it shouldn't hurt them much.

What if -- what if --- Chicago extends Toews & Kane today. Gives them both NTC's, that go in effect next July 1st. (cant' be earlier).
And what if, Chicago trades one of them to another team. They would be IMMENSELY valuable assests to move, that would be tied to the team they are traded to; EVEN if that landed upon team, is on their NTC list.
/NHL14
carry on.

I'm pretty sure that would void the fire insurance on the United Center. Every fan in Chicago would be out with pitchforks and torches.

Thought you were referring to him being scratched, sorry. He still averaged solid 2nd line minutes tho so it doesn't seem that bad.
If he's crap, oh well, I guess I think crap is alright. I think most teams would be stoked to find some 2 million dollar crap to put up 50+ points every year.
