Wonder if this is the end for SOB in the NHL. Maybe the Oilers could use him.

he is the last guy you want with the kids in the AHL

Obviously they aren't as worried as you as reaching the floor.

not much love for Shane O'Beauty around here. Rowdy guy, but he's a pretty brutal NHL/AHL player.

Sarich is a UFA.
On the Flames Tanguay has no spot at all. At least David Jones will be able to play in the bottom 6.

My hope is for the Flames to pick up a 2nd round pick for Jones at the deadline two years from now (his UFA season). Then that trade might not look so bad.

Among the other reasons given, you can only dress so many veteran players in the AHL. It may not matter since Adirondack is likely to be a young team as well, but why risk handcuffing yourself on a guy who clearly isn't in your plans?

Oh David Jones is only 29 years old?
Well that just changes my whole perspective of him.
/sarcasm
As for Sarich being UFA, that gives him value. It relieves the team from having him as an anchor. I bet the Flames wish O'Brien could have been a UFA this summer...

That's just dumb, should have used a regular buyout. No way in hell we get anywhere near the cap ceiling but there is a fairly reasonable chance we will have some trouble getting to the floor. Unless they have some big UFA on a handshake deal waiting in the wings this could blow up in our faces.

If the flames were not swimming in cap space I would not be shocked to see David Jones bought out as well. Just a terrible deal by Feaster. Not going to miss sob at all

Between this and the RFA qualifications all happening today, it seems like Treliving's sole focus the last few weeks has been the draft and so now he can get "other business" taken care of.

It will be interesting to be sure.
This is more or less what we're looking at currently:
CAP PAYROLL: $ 41,239,000
FLOOR SPACE $9,761,000
$9.8M to spend on 6 players. An average of $1.63M each, and that average increases if we promote Gaudreau ($0.925m), Reinhart ($0.618k), or Wotherspoon ($0.925m).
We're going to have to bring in a $4-6M player basically.

I still think the Flames will make a trade similar to the Gagner deal to help get to the floor - bring in a high priced player, and immediately flip him while retaining some of his salary.
If done right, I think this strategy could be very "profitable" for the Flames in terms of what they could get in return for a good player, at a fraction of their original cost.

I'm guessing this was a late decision because they didn't get any good offers to pick up an overpaid vet in trade with which to use one of their compliance buyouts.
