I thought Gagner was a lock for a "rebound" year. I'm surprised he didn't at least demand a later 1st round pick.

I like this pick-up by the Oilers. Purcell's one of the least injury prone guys in the league. However, they traded a center that they needed and will likely throw Draisaitl on the second line and ruin him.

Never change Oilers. Never change.

Gagners only 24? Feels like he's been around for awhile.

that's because he's soft and avoids contact. In that sense he'll be perfect for the Oil.

yeah, feels like an eternity because they were stupid enough to rush the kid when he clearly needed for junior time.

Regardless of what team he is on, that's not something you can take away from a player's career.

It may have been a fluke night, but I applaud the kid for doing so in the NHL.

Poor Leon. Being thrown into the lake when he hasn't proven he can swim.

Gagner is brutal on face-offs and horrible defensively. My guess is TB, and most teams, move him to the wing playing PP and sheltered minutes.

As was previously mentioned, Gagner is only a 1/3 buyout cost vs. Purcell's 2/3. I hope the Oilers were expecting to get a big power winger because Purcell is soft as butter.

Yeah, it's crazy to think considering he's played 7 seasons already for Edmonton.

I believe Gagner could have been a decent to good player if he wasn't thrown into the oiler cesspool. Now he's probably ruined, but maybe he has a chance to try to help himself.

one of those points was a giveaway to the other team, who then gave it away to another guy who scored

BS point!

Why wouldn't Tampa have used a compliance buyout on Purcell instead?
Did they use them all?

This one from HF madde me laugh

Lightning fan here (in peace)...everyone on our board is going to go ape-$hit over this - extremely happy. Purcell is an offense killer to be honest and was demoted to fourth line minutes at the end of the season. Purcell is about as soft as it gets...won't stand up for his teammates, will not backcheck. He is a perimeter player...only thing good I can say about him really is that his teammates liked him. He generally looked disinterested and Cooper was not able to get him to play defense. You are probably getting a third or fourth line winger with some skill. Our coach (Cooper) demands 2 way forwards who hustle and try to get puck back ... Purcell is awful fit for this.

Good luck with him...

"power forward" lol ... Purcell survived in the East because it's less physical, but he will be crushed in the West. If they hope for grit, energy and toughness, they'll be in a fun ride. Well, they probably won't, but we will.
