I can't imagine the Oilers asking that question. Every player would provide an "anybody but Edmonton" type of answer.

Imo there is a clear cut top 4 in this years draft. Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett, and Draisaiti are cream of the crop. It is a coin toss after that. With the Flames having pick #4 it is damn exciting we are getting one of the guys!

Bennett and Lemeiux modelling their play after Gilmour and Senior Lemieux has me drooling for future playoff series..

For this being supposedly an off year draft class, there are a lot of players I'd like to have.

The other great aspect in this scenario is there will never be a could of or should have or second guessing. The teams in front are making your decision for you so there isn't anything you can do. Probably one of the easier first round picks in a while. The only person that is probably stressing is the guy that has to stitch the name plate on the jersey.

similar to 2006?
I see this draft as being very similar to 2006 with really only one defenceman in most top 10 lists...
1. Ekblad - Johnson
2. Reinhart - Staal
3. Bennett - Toews
4. Draisaitl - Backstrom
5. Dal Colle - Kessel
6. Ehlers - Brassard
7. Ritchie - Okposo
8. Virtanen - Mueller
9. Kapanen - Sheppard
10. Nylander - Frolik
I'm not saying that these players are good comparisons just similar feel heading into the draft. Looking back Toews probably should have gone No 1...does that mean a forward is a safer first pick than Ekblad? Will someone covet defence enough to trade up to for Ekblad? Is Bennett or Reinhart the Toews of the group? Who is this drafts Giroux (top 5 player from draft snapped up at 22)?

Each of these guys could step into the third line center spot as well. Soon, and I mean very soon, the Flames are going to have solid depth at center. Dare I say, a center depth problem/dilemma?

Don't forget Jankowski as well.

I think with Monahan being responsible in both ends of the rink you will see him on the 1b line and matched up against the Kopitar/Getzlaf/Thornton type centers. When the Flames play teams with a #1 center in the Datsyuk/Nuge/Sedin/Couture/Kadri type they can match that by putting Backlund's line against them. That would leave the Draistl/Reinhart/Bennett line with the ability to focus on offense and not as much about checking top players in the league. Could be very exciting to say the least.
1st line:
Gaudreau-Bennett/Reinhart/Draistl-Granlund
2nd line:
Baertschi/Knight-Monahan-Reinhart
3rd line:
Ferland/Agostino-Backlund-Jankowski/Colborne
This would be optimal, but again not everyone is going to pan out, and this does not include any free agents acquired. Either way pretty exciting

As has been mentioned in numerous other threads, but with Jones falling last year and there always seems to be an unexpected development at the draft. How crazy would it be for Florida to select Ekblad and then Buffalo select Draisaitl leaving the Oilers without their potential top two targets?
If this were to happen would you expect Edmonton to trade the pick or trade down? This would obviously be the best case scenario for Calgary as they would have a Sam fall to 4.
I haven't seen anything to suggest Buffalo is targeting a specific prospect. Is there any way Buffalo takes Draisaitl at 2?

Edmonton would just select Bennett and be happy with their selection.

Would anyone be interested in a interactive mock draft where a poster takes a team and we go throught the draft. We can trade

Would that many people really be pissed we took Dal Colle? He's top 3 according to some scouting services and has size, skill and skating. I wouldn't have any complaints if our scouts liked him best.

There will be some like myself that will be confused as to why the didn't take Draisaitl. Hes my favorite for the Flames right now. I'd get over it eventually.

Yes I would. I got to see him play a lot this year and he looks like a lazier version of Matt Moulson. I think that is his upside which would be great but I just don't think it will happen. He really reminds me of Colborne in that he doesn't use his size well but he has a much better shot than Joe. I think I would take Ritchie as a big winger before Dal Colle.

I would take Ritchie and Virtanen over MDC.

My list of preference:
Trading Up to the 1st/2nd OA:
Ekblad
Reinhart
Staying Put at #4:
Reinhart
Bennett
Draisaitl
Trading Down to the 5th-10th OA (Hopefully we don't):
Ritchie
Virtanen
Dal Colle
Ehlers
Fleury
Nylander
Pretty much tells you my top ten: 1) Ekblad - 2) S. Reinhart - 3) Bennett - 4) Draisaitl - 5) Ritchie - 6) Virtanen - 7) Dal Colle - 8) Ehlers - 9) Fleury - 10) Nylander
