That seems a big price to pay. I'm not adverse to moving Baertschi, but it would have to be to improve the overall organization. Maybe a deal of Baestschi, Wideman (retain 50%) + the 4th pick for the 1st pick, Alex Petrovic and Brian Campbell? I see Baertschi having greater value than Petrovic, but not enough to balance out the deal. The inclusion of eating Campbell and half of Wideman's salaries might be enough to buy the pick. Although, Florida would have to go shopping and spend big to hit the cap floor.

If Cammy would agree to this it would work for us.

When you look at what early first rounders usually get traded for, it's historically much less than what people here are proposing. Of course, early first rounders don't get traded very often, but when they do, it's not for massive packages in return.

He's signed for one more year on a 35+ contract, so he'll most likely be playing next year too. When the Flames played the Panthers late in the season, more than once, I found myself saying, "He's still in the NHL?"

A boat's a boat, but the mystery prospect could be anything... it could even be a boat!

Is there anyway to get the 1st and keep our 4th? Brodie Backlund ( I would prefer Glencross over Backlund but he wont waive) and a second?
Then take Ekblad and hopefully a Sam.
Probably a little light still?

I'd do Gio for #1 pick for sure ... I don't get the mentality of holding in to an aging yet valuable player...he's very good and has great value, and that's exactly why he makes sense for CGY to move.
Actually, I shouldn't say 'for sure', as I know nothing about the draft eligible players...I'm suggesting Gio shouldn't be untouchable.
I sure love having him on the Flames though.

I think it would be Sven, Brodie and a 2nd( maybe both). To me it looks like to much, but I'm not sure Florida would even take that package.

Gio is more valuable to this team now and in the future than Ekblad will be

If Treliving trades Sven plus pick #4 for pick #2 he should be sent packing.

We are talking about a potential 30 goal scorer plus a potential #1 center for a potential #1 defenseman.
I think a lot of people overvalue what it would take to move up 2 spots in the draft.
A 21 year old future 30-40 goal scorer is WAY to much.
IMO, I would not give up more than our second rounder.

Came for lopsided trade proposals in both directions, leaving... overwhelmed by selection.

Well, I'm sorry my proposal does not meet your approval. A d man who can play now and is experienced, the potential to sign an experienced scoring winger and a high pick for 1st overall is stupid. Right then...

I'd want Gio to mentor Sir Ekblad. So I would not be in favor of moving Gio for the #1 pick.
The Col second and the Flames third along with the #4 pick would seal the deal IMO. The cost to move up isn't as high as people think.
I think there are multiple angles in which the Panthers would move the pick. And I bet they'd be comfortable dropping to 4 and grabbing a Dal Colle along with the extra picks.
I don't know about keeping pick #4 and somehow acquiring the #1 pick though. That's where I do not see a deal. Unless Gallon really likes Wideman.

What about RW Jiri Hudler, LW Kenny Agostino and the 4th overall for the 1st overall and RW Jimmy Hayes?
Florida gets immediate and talented RW help on a decent contract, a decent prospect and only a slide of three positions. Calgary gets the 1st, and a young-ish RW that, stats-wise, hasn't been anything extraordinary. Plus, it may help in securing Kevin Hayes' services down the line.

I think the expectations of Baertschi are a little too high IMO. Anyone has the potential to be a 30 goal scorer, whether they actually score 30 on a regular basis is another thing.

That would be a solid gamble to take, especially if they could sign Kevin as well. That would be Ekblad, Hayes and Hayes for Hudler, Agostino and one of the forwards available. I believe Agostino is going to be a very solid 3rd liner, but that might be a good swap for both teams.

Gio is NOT being traded. Zero chance he gets moved.
