The bottom line is that the Oilers really should have been looking for fresh blood, not the same old sh%t when it comes to bringing people into the front office.
The OKC Barons made the third round of the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.

There has been plenty of bad decision making but I'm not sure how the GM of that club gets lumped into that.

This one just doesn't have enough meat on it to make fun of the Oilers.

Who knows, the guy migh be competent, and this may have even been a good move.

Unlikely, but still.

I'll just wait another week or two for them to do something more clearly idiotic before I pile in again.

I honestly don't know what to say about the hiring. There have been countless mind-boggling decisions over the last few years, so I guess I'm going to be skeptical about the hiring until he proves himself. But don't ask me what "proves himself" means in terms of the Oilers, as I have no expectations of the management team anymore....

But an interesting note, I believe it was Bob Stauffer who said the OKC Barons had to use 8 goalies, countless players (well over 70 if I recall correctly) due to injuries, call ups, demotions, etc. Now I don't follow the AHL close enough to know if that kind of turnover is normal, but to me it seems extraordinarily high. And for the OKC Barons to make the playoffs with that many different players tells me that this GM must be at least somewhat competent.

I'm about show my ignorance (for real) and lack of knowledge. But, what the hell does the GM of a minor league team that has an NHL affiliate do, and more importantly is it anything?

Also, who is the Heats equivalent?

Craig Conroy. It was John Weisbrod before this year.

Responsible for making minor league trades, signing guys to ATOs and PTOs. Calling people up from the ECHL. Probably reports back to the GM on the developmental progress of their prospects. Does some pro scouting obviously. Stuff like that I'd assume.
