Tim Thompson is the man stealing the hard earned taxpayer dollars, leeching off the teet of the working man just to make a 3 minute videos in his comfy chair in a government palace...

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013/...yoff-montages/

Sometimes he doesn't get much time...

Quote:
The montage tormented Thompson. He did not sleep well the night before. During the regular season, he might have a full week to work on a piece. For Game 7, he had one day. And he kept tinkering with it, flirting with disaster.

It was scheduled to air at 6:57 p.m. ET.

Thompson finished it at 6:52 p.m.

It fed to the main control room three minutes before it went to air across Canada.

"I couldn't let go of it until it was ready, you know?" he said. "I wouldn't sleep if I put something out there that wasn't ..."
If the private sector isn't paying for somebody like this, then I'd say it's a case for why the CBC should stay in the sports business, because it's just better. Thompson is awesome.

The “History” Channel and other “educational” channels are irrefutable arguments for the continued funding of public broadcasting.

Pawn Stars, Swamp People, Yukon Gold...Mmmm, history!
Gypsy Wedding, Little Couple, Worst Tatoos...Mmmm, learning!

CBC and PBS have a role in culture. Taxes be damned.

People are so goddamn cheap... A microscopic portion of tax revenue goes to CBC and it's the worst thing ever. But by all means, let's obliterate Rogers for putting a cheap crappy product on the air every night.

We don't really get to decide what our taxes go towards, on such a micro level. Pacifists have tax dollars go to destroyers, naturopaths still have to fund hospitals and people that don't drive still maintain the roads.

Deal with it. You know who's got low taxes and no evil public broadcaster? Somalia. It's working out well.

I don't mind my tax dollars going to fund the CBC. It's been a staple for news, documentaries and sports in my household for years. It's a shame that its funding is dwindling.

Some people get so butthurt about tax dollars go to media and arts, and I've never understood why. These are just as essential to me as infrastructure, trade, the justice system... it all contributes to a well-rounded society in which I live in. To me, that's important, and I'm glad my government has recognized that for many years.

Also, keep this is mind, as Calgarians, the CBC is probably the only ACTUAL federal presence we see in these here parts. Everything else is mythical and non-existent, so enjoy it while you can.

The cbc is just catnip for wingnuts... Pumping up the cbc in front of a bunch of hardcore right wingers is like saying you love organized religion to some of the other extreme.

This political culture that has emerged with fox news type channels has bred a lot of people who think everybody else is an idiot and the world is ending when people with a different perspective have government funding or power.

No, it's from a meditation on illness and death. But you're right that it wasn't originally written for a book.

I really hope that a future government will restore CBC's funding. They provide some great content and cost very little in the grand scheme of things
