Poirier will be 19 next season (doesn't turn 20 until December), someone like Freeway can shed some light on this but apparently he is allowed to play in the AHL next year. I believe (could be wrong) Emile is allowed to play in the AHL at 19 because he turns 20 before December 31st.

I have no doubt I've just made things murkier and less clear. You're welcome.
Ok, it might be right. I may be thinking for their draft years. We will have to do some more research on this!

Because Poirier turns 20 before Jan 1st, he can start the year in the AHL even though he's only 19.

Oilers did take their time with eberle, that's the path I see for klimchuk/poirier.

A full season would be good. Do what they eventually did with Baertschi this year, put him there and leave him there. He was just as good as Monahan during training camp last year but faded as camp continued, if his conditioning continues to improve he'll be an NHL player during next seasons camp.

You think that they will let Klimchuk/poirer play a playoff round or two after their CHL seasons are done and then straight into the NHL? Because Eberle did not spend any time in the AHL with the exception of the lockout and when his Regina Pats were done their regular seasons.

Can we not bring some of the back burner stuff to the main page seeing as its the only playoff hockey we get to see ourbflames playing?

Also with the new guys playing it certainly adds merit to being on the FOI page

If it is okay with the powers that be, I have no issues posting the GDT here and putting the game day updates in it. First playoff game has been confirmed for April 25th now.

There are 3 games left this weekend, the first two have a GDT up here, but if the mods want to move it into here, that's fine too: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?p=4727392

I don't see why not. For all intents and purposes Flames season is over, would be nice to cheer for the Heat.

This is my take on it. Obviously, nothing has been officially decided yet by Ward and Co.

Reinhart-Granlund-Jones
Baertschi-Knight-Miller
Jooris-Street-Locke
Hanowski-Olson-Bancks

SOB-Smith
Breen-Billins
LaFranchise-Arsene

Ortio
Carr

Reinhart-Granlund-Jones were the hottest line for Abbotsford prior to the Granlund call-up and injury I believe Ward will put them back together.

Baertschi-Knight-Miller have had good chemistry the past few games. While Miller is not one of our prospects, he's done well feeding Baertschi and Knight and playing with them so I think Ward would leave him in to keep them hot. If Miller drops off, I think Street could move up to this line or perhaps Locke.

Jooris-Street-Locke. Jooris would be one of those players who Klimchuk could be subbed in for. He's been nothing special lately. Street is undeserving of a 3rd line role, but unless Miller is taken out, this is the only place I can see him going. I think this would be a good solid 3rd line made up of players who could play 2nd line but are being bumped out by some hot players. Our top two lines are absolutely deadly when they get going so we have good players making up a 3rd line.

Hanowski-Olson-Bancks...say it with me: "Truculence". This is a punishing 4th line. Olson has been playing great as of late, and again maybe not deserving of a 4th line role, but I think with the bodies we have back now this is where he falls. The kid is also dangerous shorthanded. Not what you expect from a 4th liner/grinder guy. Hanowski's first game back from the Flames might be one of his better all year. Bancks, he's a little plugger. He'll play rough if he has to. This is a 4th line that will punish the other team physically and if they get lose can score goals.

SOB-Smith has been the go to defensive pairing for Ward for awhile now. Don't expect any changes.

Breen-Billins is another go-to pairing for Ward.

LaFranchise-Arsene are our vets that we brought in for experience. Its plausible that Kulak and/or Davies might slot into the spot on occasion, but I think we run with a strong, experienced defence. This is the only pairing that I think might be tinkered with.

Ortio is our starter. There is no question. Carr will be a good backup though if we need it.

Other notes:

Jooris-Knight-Hanowski was a deadly line to start the season. The "Roomie Line". I would love to see them reunited as a gritty 2nd/3rd line.

I think guys like Klimchuk, Kulak, Poirier and Roy might earn in spots if someone goes on a slump or injured. I don't think Ward is going to use the new prospects and rookies unless he absolutely needs them or the team needs a swift kick to wake up. I believe most of them are there to be Black Aces and get the experience of the playoff run.

If things get rough, look for Gillies to draw in for a game or two. Gillies is pretty much our McGrattan. He was brought in to protect the kids. Outside of that, he has little use to the team.

^ That's one thing with not seeing some of these rookies in the AHL. They could be ready to go for the playoffs or they could be deer in headlights. I'm just as curious to see what happens because yes, someone like Miller would be easily swapped out if one of our prospects show they could compete at that level.

As it looks now, I wouldn't move Miller because he's complimenting two of our bigger prospects.

its not about rushing or not rushing...its about earning a spot on the flames and not just being handed one. Some guys are ready at younger ages

There is a 3 game road trip, they will play games before playoffs, and I bet that the 1st or 2nd game this weekend, they will be taking roster spots.

Reinhart-Granlund-Jones
Baertschi-Knight-Poirier
Jooris(maybe klimchuk)-Street-Locke
Hanowski-Olson-Bancks

SOB-Smith
Breen-Billins
LaFranchise-Arsene(maybe Kulak)

Not exactly sure what the rule is for him being able to play in the AHL next season but he wouldn't be listed as an over aged player in the QMJHL. The only thread that made me wish I was able to post in during my one month ban was the Poirier thread where everyone was incorrectly stating his age when comparing him to Cory Perry.
Because Poirier turns 20 before the end of the year this upcoming season will count as his 20 year old season. Therefore yes, he would be considered an overager if sent back to junior (like Culkin this year) and therefore he is AHL eligible because it's his 20 year old season.
