Ovi will be a Cap for life. The owner is not going to make a move on him to potentially make the team stronger. The $$$ Ovi brings to the team are invaluable. Especially for a club who struggled for as long as they did before drafting Ovi.
It is one of the more difficult positions for a gm however I do think some GMs can turn them into a very good team. You do have to build around AO, you knew that the day you drafted him!

You're probably right, but I think at this stage letting him run wild and letting him get away with no defence is killing the team. It's simply unfair treatment for the team and the rest of the players know that. They have to change the culture of that team, and to me that means making a trade for a solid 2 way star who will put Ovechkin as the second fiddle. Who that player could be, I don't know, but having him as the centre piece and playing by his own rules while others are disciplined does not create a good environment. Having him as the second fiddle would work wonders I'd think.

It wouldnt be the end of the world, but I'd like to see someone young and new getting a shot at GM. Someone who is going to be around for the long-haul.

People want McPhee?

McPhee should thank his lucky stars he had AO for the last 10 years because they don't sniff a playoff spot without him.

Fans rip Feaster's job but at least he didn't trade Baertschi for friken Erat and a broken stick.

Ovechkin kills another coach. They'll never win with that guy as the leader.

Not sure how many "want" Mcphee but there is absolutely no question he will get consideration fom Burke...and lot's of it.

A lot is done in the name of saving your job with a playoff run. GM's usually all expire, and they all make mistakes.

McPhee was in Washington for 17 years, and brought the team some great successes. So yeah, lucky us Feaster didn't trade Baertschi, but you look like a goof comparing him to one of the most consistently solid GM's over the last 20 years.

Perhaps Feaster could hold a job for more than a couple years, then we'll talk.

That may be one of the dumbest lists ever compiled.

Bob Pulford AND Glen Sather among the top 3 worst GM's in NHL history???

laughable.

Sather has had atrocious FA signings over the years, but the beauty is while everyone has recognized they've been untradeable contracts, he's occasionally found a sucker to take those off his hands. Holik, Gomez and Redden the most notable.

Dreger tweets "McPhee makes sense in CGY"

...why does he make sense in CGY? Because we're used to being a bad team?

Yuck, if we fired Feaster to end up with McPhee....this rebuild will go sideways mighty quickly.

Oh I agree...he has made his fair share of mistakes...thats going to happen in that business when you do it for 25 years or whatever its been.

Point is though...in the history of the NHL, he is no where close to one of the worst GM's in the game, which is what that article/list claims.

Because Dreger hates the Flames.

Clearly.

But seriously, no McPhee please. The Caps have consistently been a disappointment with him at the helm and have Ovi to thank for not being an outright laughing stock like Edmonton. I can scarcely believe how much dead weight that guy willingly brought into Washington over the past few years.

McPhee makes way more sense landing in Vancouver than in Calgary. He's got experience and reputation, so would be a nice compliment to Linden's learning on the job.

GMGM and Burke might be chums, but they're probably also aware of the risks involved in putting two old hands, used to running their own shows, into our new management structure. It'd be a power struggle waiting to happen. I think Burke knows this, which is why he's been telling anyone who will listen that he's interested in bringing in a young guy.

If I'm Washington, Trotz makes a ton of sense.
