Personal Streaks You're Proud Of

- I have never, once, in 25 years, had a cigarette.
- It has been 5 years since doing any illegal drugs.
- I have never cheated on a lover.
- I have watched every single roller derby bout my wifes team has played since she joined (which is tough as I work in northern Alberta and live in southern B.C.)

my kids love McDonalds, but I will never take them there. They both protest how "gross" it is but they like the toys.
-I still have some t-shirts that i regularly wear from 1990ish. People just think they're retro now.

After setting a streak I'm not proud of and consuming a slurpee every day for a year, I have gone the opposite way and have not had a slurpee for 519 days. I will not have a slurpee again for the rest of my life.

- 4+ years of no fast food chains, however I will allow myself to try new places once, or Jack-in-the-Box, when I am in the states.

This one is short, but one I am most proud of:

- 2 months without taking a sleep aid to fall asleep after being hooked on them since university. (Nyquil/Melatonin/perscription)

Quit cold turkey after coming back from Europe and not going back.

Have not (and won't) seen Titanic, or Avatar.

Also . . . have not opened (or read the contents of) a fortune cookie in 26 years.
(you all know the pressure when everyone's sitting around the table . . . the bill comes with the pile of cookies on it . . . everyone's grabbing/breaking/reading . . . NOPE! . . . now I'm just stubborn about it - it's surprising how mental others get about it, "...but...but, you HAVE TO! OPEN IT!! COME ON, JUST OPEN IT!!!!")

I've given up booze for a year a couple times, just to make sure I could if I had to. Given up slurpees since New Year's, which seems trivial unless you know how much I love those icy cups of wonder...

As far as streaks of "doing" - as opposed to abstaining - I've worked out at least 5 times a week since Oct 09, so it'll be five years this fall. Even on vacation in far places I have kept up. So there's that.

Giving up slurpees is not trivial if you're just trying to do it. I once made it about 11 months without a slurpee, just because.

Now I've gone 519 days without a slurpee because I was diagnosed with diabetes. This time around it is a LOT easier. Quite, and stay quit by sheer will power and not because of needing to because of health problems.

The willpower streaks are the one that impress me the most; giving up something that was a big part of your life, whether it's junkfood, caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. As much as I have an 'all things in moderation' philosophy, I'm not sure I'd have the willpower to ever absolutely eliminate one of my favorite things from my life.

So, well-done, all you guys who have successfully done that!
