Great fans in Vancouver eh? Only a few years removed from a Stanley Cup appearance they have thrown in the towel completely not going to games or renewing season tickets. Vancouver simply isn't a very good sports town.

Based on the very positive results we presently enjoy from a whole bunch of draft picks, prospects and players acquired during Feaster's tenure here, I am not nearly as pleased about this possible development. Feaster did a lot of good things here.

Was hearing the rumors last night as well. Not sure how much teeth they have but I'm scheduled for a early morning show/interview setup on Saturday in which details are being kept very quiet. Last time this happened a certain new coach was hired. It could also be a complete fluff piece...
Linden would need a very strong experienced GM if he were to become president. Great guy and the fans love him but he has zero experience at this. This would be done strictly for PR.

Word on the TEAM 1040 about 5 mins ago that Marcus Naslund has declined to comment on the situation.

IMO the reason Linden is being quiet is because Gillis probably hasn't been fired as of yet and it's a matter of the dominos falling.
|
Was going to post exactly this.
The media, and maybe fans, might have liked his comments because they made good copy and gave them lots to discuss.
But he is the President and GM and what does he do? He throws his coach and the owners under the bus and basically challenges the owners - publicly - to pick him or Tortorella.
He has completely lost control and that was an amateurish move on his part.

Linden doesn't have experience obviously, but I agree with those that suggest he would bring some class and stability to the organization.

Doubtful.
He looked very frail, and unwell at the Pavel Bure ceremony. Like real bad. I am not an expert, but he looked like he was wasting.

Sure, but this will be well after Feaster is asked to sell off the Sedins, Kesler, Hamhuis and bunch of others or less than ideal returns.
Better hope your scouts are good in Vancouver, because Jay can't scout himself.

While I wouldn't go that far to say that his health was failing, I would say that he is a 71 year old man and that there aren't too many 70+ year olds who have the energy to work at a regular job, let alone a stressful job like that which is required to run a NHL team.
I don't really know who would be a good replacement for a general manager, I actually don't think that Feaster would be a bad choice for a rebuilding team.

Better yet, could you imagine if Feaster sells Aquilini on a plan to 'win now' with the current Canucks roster?
Just a quick retool and they'll be back in contention. Hahahaha.

Bringing back the Old Boys to sell tickets is the first sign of true desperation. Threatening to sue the media for libel over fairly innocuous comments is a very close second.

If it were me, what I would do is have Gillis resign as GM and turn those duties over to his deputy, Gilman, who does most of their contract stuff anyway. Gillis remains president, Gilman selects a new deputy, and if they want to get Linden involved they can bring him in either in that role or an alternative support role.
Meanwhile, Tortorella and the roster get another crack at things next season, with or without Ryan Kesler depending on the strength of the market at the draft. If by next trade deadline the team still appears to be a bubble team that has no chance of contending for anything besides a wild card spot, rebuild commences in earnest and Torts is done end of next year.
I suspect that instead they will panic, blow up management, signaling to everyone else that there's a carcass to pick over, and trade a few players for sub-optimal returns. Which would be very "Canucks".
