i've had a couple games in men's league where i'd love to just leave a game when having 'one of those nights'... but never did

this is what i'm impressed with....

Quote:
Dalen Kuchmey pulled himself from Windsor's net, went to the dressing room, changed and drove away from the arena after giving up eight goals on 26 shots, leaving the Spitfires trailing 8-1 with 5:34 remaining in the second period.

London went on to win the game 10-2.

"You're going to have to ask him," Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner said when asked about Kuchmey's whereabouts during the third period."He left the ice and the rink before the (second) period was over . He quit on our team and he quit on his teammates."
he was able to get off the ice, get to the change room, change, pack his gear and leave the arena in 5:34 of game time.... that is impressive!!!! ...i'm usually closer to 30-40 minutes!

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the Edmonton Oilers are pleased to select with the first overall pick...."

Seems like a match made in heaven.

Kuchmey says Boughner embarrassed him

Jim Parker@winstarparkerFollow
Goalie Dalen Kuchmey said he felt Windsor #Spitfires HC Bob Boughner "embarrassed me in front of my fans" by not pulling him after 8 goals.

Jim Parker@winstarparkerFollow
Dalen Kuchmey apologizes to Windsor #Spitfires teammates, but said. "sometimes you have to do what you have to do for yourself to be happy."

I was one of the ones who wondered aloud if Boughner handled things correctly, but I don't agree with the goalie leaving the ice and arena. Still don't know the entire story, but I would assume on what I've read so far that both sides could have handled it better. Seems strange that the goalie could leave the ice and get in his car with 5 minutes in the period, or at the very least, wasn't there a trainer or assistant coach there to talk to the kid and calm him down? The whole thing seems weird, would love to get the entire story, not sure if we ever will.

Yeah, those comments are pretty embarrassing.

"He embarrassed me in front of my fans"? What a doosh.

Don't agree with walking out like that but, after watching the replays from the game, the coach talking about it afterward and today. I completely understand where he is coming from. I'd be frustrated too if I had no defence. Their was little effort displayed by Windsor. Some of what the coach (He is also the president of the team as well) saying he's not going to even try to talk to him is kinda bs. Both handled if poorly. I don't know how sick the goalie ESS but he came in and played just fine afterwards. Either way lesson learned learned for both sides. They are going to have to call up a goalie now anyways for a game a least.

Why put a young kid through that?
Well he's the coach for starters and he probably was either resting the other goalie for the next game or trying to teach this goalie a thing or two about battling through adversity...something that he clearly has an issue with.
