Very true. I hope Flames are able to offer some kind of NHL promotion for this guy. If we don't I think we'll lose him to some other team.

Hartley has proven he can get the most out of players that other coaches couldnt.
Troy ward is doing a helluva job down in Abby as well getting these young men ready to adapt to what Bob expects.
I am so excited since watching this progression from the day Ward was hired and Hartley as well.
I really hope ownership recognizes the difference as all of us armchair GMS and fans alike that have posted here obviously agree to the positive changes.
43 1 goal games!!!
Whoda thunk it.

The team has really gelled which is amazing to see in a rebuild. The players care about one another, unlike the oilers. That's the biggest part for me. And it's part coaching, part players and part results to make it happen

Someone please post that picture of Hartley as the mad scientist. That's a beauty.

Not really sure where to put this little nugget but:
Extra Skater @ExtraSkater 13h Calgary Flames at 5 on 5: 2.02 GF/60. Flames while shorthanded: 2.01 GF/60.
So the Flames are just as likely to score a goal while shorthanded as while playing 5-on-5. Wow. Granted, they're much more likely to allow a goal, but still a pretty crazy stat.
Pulled Philly as a random comparison: 5-on-5: 2.32 G/60m SH: 0.75 G/60....

what? I am confused...the Flames don't score 2.02 SH goals a game.
ahh...is it per 60 minutes of SH time?
Am I missing something here?

Yup those numbers are per 60 minutes of SH time (or 5v5 time).

I love listening to Hartley's interviews because of the Francophone accent. It's like we have Georges St Pierre as a coach.

About a 14 minute practice for the #Flames today. Hartley seemingly unhappy with what he saw, so called it off. Interesting.

While I definitely agree that he's gotten the most out of it(and I think he's a HELL of a coach), he's also had the benefit of an Iginla and Tanguay-less Calgary flames, a luxury that no other coach has had this side of the millennium

Hartley better be extended... I don't see any other coach that could match his work ethic for this team. He's making a bunch of "Superstar"-less players play like a team and give it their all every game.

It doesn't matter who the new GM is, Burke will make every major decision.

When in doubt have them play face-off games and losers roll on the ice like dogs.

Could Care Less
|
I thought there was a Bob Hartley Quotes thread but couldn't find it. I just really wanted to share this quote because I love it. Really speaks to building a winning culture that contributes to developing young players properly. Some posters think that the concept of a "losing culture" or a "winning culture" is BS, but I couldn't agree less. Hartley was talking about our culture after praising Detroit's leadership and how that has created so much consistency for them. I love how he talks about our leaders being good people.
Quote:
“You’re a young player and you come up in this organization (Detroit), you have two great role models. Us on this side right now, our captain is our best role model. He plays the game the right way. Those are positives in an organization. That’s how you build solid young players. It’s not only about the teaching, about the coaching, it’s about who do you have around. It’s about good people.”
