I can't imagine that, as he did sign a one day contract. For all intents and purposes he was a full on San Jose Sharks Player.

I thought about having him sit on the bench. But Rule 5.1

Eligible Players - A team shall be composed of 20 players (18 skaters and two goalkeepers) who shall be under contract to the Club they represent. For the purposes of these playing rules, any reference to "player" shall refer to both skaters and goalkeepers. Any reference to “goalkeeper” shall mean that the section of the rule is specific to goalkeepers.

So if he was dressed on the bench, the Sharks could only dress 19 players. Only really would do that if there was an injury/illness situation where you only had 19 players or less dressing anyway.
