Good to hear, in about 2-3 weeks once frozen four involvement is over Gaudreau signing would really make my day though.

Great that the Flames have so many contract slots free to bring in NCAA guys for trial runs late in the year, really smart move for a rebuilding team, give the guys a taste, see what they've got and don't dress a veteran laden lineup late in a lost season where high stakes draft slots are at play.

About as sweet as the top junior team playing the top bantam team. Which is to say, not very.

Anyway, I would expect we'll hear news today if Agostino does sign. Would be fun to see tomorrow.

He's been listed "in the system" all along. He's not listed on the main roster.

Looks like every player is available via that drop down box on that page.

I thought the Agostino question might come up with Maher this morning, but the subject never came up. Is there still a chance Yale could be chosen for the NCAA tournament on Sunday? Would being defending champ hold any sway in the selection criteria? If there is even a slight chance of that, you would think that Agostino would want to wait until after selection Sunday to sign his contract.
edit: These idiots on the Fan are painful to listen to. They don't even know that the tournament selection is on Sunday. They are truly a pathetic embarrassment to the pathetic embarrassment that is sports radio. I'll stick to CP.

I know there is little to no chance this happens but could Hayes opt to not sign with the Hawks this summer and join the Flames? We would then have the whole BC top line in the pro ranks for the Flames.

Also Agostino and Johnny have also been friends since they were kids I believe so excited to have him on board

Sounds like he has the right attitude:
In Lou We Trust - Ken Agostino
Quote:
"I never considered myself a goal scorer," said Agostino, The Star-Ledger Player of the Year in 2009 who will continue his hockey career next season at Yale University. "At Delbarton, you have to learn to play in all three zones. You can't be a one-dimensional player and contribute to the team. We all understand that.

"Coach Shatel doesn't care about who scores the goals. Everybody must contribute sound play and just get the job done. I like to think when I did score, the goals came as a result of hard work from everybody."
He'll fit in fast I'm sure.

It's a good question, and MMF has a good answer for it:

Zero chance that happens. Why would Hayes give up the guaranteed money of being a first-round draft pick? Why would he risk going to a worse team and get worse money? The market for Hayes is set at a second round draft pick and Calgary would have to cough that up. It doesn't make sense that Chicago would turn around and not sign the player unless someone overpays. Unless Calgary sees something in Hayes, on his own merits, I doubt they go after him. Makes little sense.

Not that I think we should sign him, but that doesn't exist, an entry level deal is an entry level deal. The NHL is not the NFL.

I may have worded that poorly, but Hayes is all but guaranteed the top end of the entry level contract as a first round pick. He goes to free agency there is no guarantee that he will get the max entry level contract. Also, he's on the verge of turning 22, which would mean a 2 year versus 3 year entry level contract and leaving bonus money on the table. Unless he is certain he's going to be a NHL player there is risk there. Does Hayes want to assume all that risk and leave that guaranteed money on the table? Does that make more sense?

I wish we could get a 'Johnny Hockey' countdown timer for April 12th - the final game scheduled for the Frozen Four tourney.

My stomach is in knots over this prospect until then....

Always trust the random cousin Twitter account. More accurate than Eklund.

Happy about this as he was the one guy I was concerned could potentially go to UFA.

At the top end Agostino has a Ryan Callahan feel to him and at worst I think he is another one of those role type players 3rd/4th line guys that good teams continually have coming down the pipeline (Chicago is the prime example of this).
