Was just reading about it this morning. When you get the whole can't guarantee the safety of the crew, well, the Iroquis is next in line to get an honorable torpedoing at seas.

It does leave us with one Command and Control ship in a fleet that has serious resupply issues. On top of that 4 of the 12 Halifax Class Frigates are in various stages of their half life refit.

out of the 4 Victoria Class Submarines, only one is certified to dive to its expected depth and be able to use its weapons systems.


Right now if we needed the Navy to deploy it couldn't.

Yeah, there's some major "gives" on the government side especially not requiring the 30 minute "run dry" gearbox for the helo. I don't really understand why they gave in on that when other helos have it already...

There is one frigate in the Black Sea right now to support NATO with Ukraine right? The recent military procurement strategy paper really surprised me when it stated that they plan to retrofit and upgrade the Victoria Class subs, I figured those were heading out to pasture.

100% however that's also not saying much. I'm hoping that Sikorsky figures out this gearbox things and they can be retrofitted down the road on our helos.

There is no doubt they are light years ahead of the garbage that was being used.

However, if there is one thing I learnt in my 7 years in green, it was that if something, anything could go wrong it will. It frustrates me to see corners cut on this type of thing.

The Regina deployed to the Black Sea from the Arabian Ocean IIRC. Long deployment.

The Victoria's are going to be refit but there are major major issues with those boats from their inability to dive effectively to issues with their fire control systems.

When they were designed by the British they were a novel class of boat, A diesel electric boat with very good quieting systems and the type of sonar and fire control systems seen on their Trafalger class. In theory its an excellent boat design. They were virtually undetectable on passive sonar and during snorkling operations.


But there were significant issues with its wiring design and environmental systems. This wasn't helped by a poor transition and inspection protocol during its sale to Canada.

You and I had the same frustrations I'm sure. And we always saw things go wrong, that's what happens with heavy use in a dirty environment.

That's why the common military phrase is

"Well that's not supposed to happen"
