Cans are better for throwing on the ground in anger around the campfire.
Q: Why are we angry?
A: Beer is empty.

Bottle.
Cans are fine for capming and golf. They shouldn't taste any different, the cans have a coating on the inside so there's no metal to beer contact. I find cans go flat faster if your drinking from the can, and lose their head when you pour them a lot more than a bottle.
Have to try a vented can, might solve that.

I posted that I hoped a case of this was the return for Berra yesterday, but in all seriousness, it's a great beer, and can only.
Apparently their Imperial Stout Ten Fidy is amazing too ... but I never got a chance to try that. Also can only.

I'm not a big beer guy but I have always felt it tastes better to me out of a bottle as opposed to a can. That said I spent a lot of my youth drinking Old Milwaters from cans.

Might also explain a large part of why you're not a beer guy

I'd be very surprised if you participated in a blind taste test involving a few different brands with a glass from the can and a glass from the bottle and could tell the difference with any accuracy. I prefer bottles as well, but I believe it to be mostly psychological.

I'd say this is the general consensus. I have been told by a few bartenders that draught is the worst though. The explanation was that all the ingredients are mixed up in a keg and therefore each glass is not the exact mix of ingredients that the beer maker wanted.
I sort of understand that logic, but isn't beer made in fairly large batches and then bottled, creatin the same issue?
Back on topic, bottle for me - not for the taste but it just feel right.

Red Racer IPA.
Anderson Valley IPA.
Asahi (guilty pleasure).
Best is obviously subjective, but I put Red Racer up there as the "best" IPA that is easy to lay your hands on in calgary. I'm sure there are more that I am missing, that was off the top of my head.

All the stuff from Maui, Lighthouse Beacon IPA, Phillips Bottle Rocket, All the stuff made by Spinnakers (First Brew Pub in Canada after laws changed in the late 70s/Early 80s) Howe Sound Lager, Most of the stuff from Cannery Brewing, the stuff from Fernie, the Bowen Island line is great for people looking for good value session beers that are still quality. All good to great beers that you won't find in bottles. All stuff I'd take happily over other bottled things. If you like drinking imports, Cans will closer reflect the actual taste the brewers were looking for, not that skunkiness.
Edit- If you are looking for single cans, Mill Street does some great stuff. Their Vanilla Porter and Lemon Tea Lager are to die for in Winter and Summer respectively. There's also Longwood out of Nanaimo who are making some decent tall cans right now. And while I would be lynched for mentioning my guilty pleasure of Cariboo, I should mention PWB's Schwarzbock. Dirt cheap and a heaping of flavour, easily their best beer.
This is just stuff I sell and can cite by looking to my right. Given a longer lunch break I could probably keep going.

Those bartenders would be wrong. Beer from major brands (microbrewery's can be different), say budwieser for example, isn't mixed in kegs, its lagered in huge stainless steel vats at their brewery's. Its the same beer that goes into bottle, cans, or kegs...all depends what bottling run they are doing at the moment, but in theory its all the same beer so should taste the same.
Main factors that can influence taste after its bottled/canned/kegged is how long its been in the container, temperature it has been stored at and sunlight. So those bartenders may be correct that their draft beer tastes worse than whats in their bottles but its more likely the way they are storing/dispensing their draft than how it was made. Or how long they've been sitting on that keg trying to sell the beer in it.

It's not that I or my friends loved it as much as most of us preferred it to the other cheap beer alternatives like Club, Black Label, etc. In those days alcohol consumption was based on quantity not quality.
