The Sabres have won 3 in a row, something had to give.

Sabres fans on HF seem to hate Nolan. That seems odd to me.

Sounding more and more like LaFontaine didn't want to tank. Everyone else did.

Lavoie seems to think it was the Miller trade that broke the camels back so to speak:

Renaud Lavoie ‏@LavoieRenaud 2m
The last straw was the Ryan Miller trade. Pat Lafontaine was pushing to give Miller an extension. Tim Murray was pushing for a trade.

Not saying this had anything to do with Nolan, but why does this stuff always happen to teams he coaches?

Well, if Nolan is relieved of his dutes at the end of the season. And the new Flames GM wishes to part ways with Hartley (unlikely but who knows), then I hope Nolan gets a good shot here for a couple of seasons.

Some close to the Sabres says there was no power struggle, Lafontaine wanted to get back to New York and the working for NHL. Hmmmmm.

Doubt it

Well his last two jobs (Islanders and this one) were with teams with crazy owners.

True, but he also won the Jack Adams for Buffalo in 1997 and then was gone the following year and didn't get another job for a long time. Was a lot of talk then about him undermining his GM and trying to get him fired.

It just seems strange that this drama keeps happening above him.

X2

I would rather take Hartley's professional approach of instilling work ethic and having pride in the organization than almost any other available coach out there at the moment, and about a third of the coaches that are currently in NHL jobs.

Mike Harrington @BNHarrington
Definitely hearing conflicting items. Source close 2 team says LaF wanted 2 go back to NYC/NHL. Another says this is all about Miller/Nolan.

Both could be right - perhaps he was realizing how much better it was working for the NHL, and the Miller trade could be the straw that broke the camel's back.
