Back on topic..... has anyone noticed how those cheap bas**rds at the depot always seem to come up with the same payout no matter how much you bring in to them? I could be taking back the accumulated bottles from the playoffs in 4 dump trucks and still only get $50!!

It's akin to ordering a pizza. No matter how many freaking coupons I have, it always comes to around $25.

I let my empties accumulate until they've overrun my kitchen and then when I hear the clackety-clacking of a bottle collector pushing a shopping cart down the sidewalk I load him up with them. Everyone wins.

I think the Herald ran a story on this last month. Apparently the recycling board has a secret shopper who's sole job is to drop in and make sure that no depot is ripping people off. Wasn't encouraging, out of 5 cited, 4 didn't actually provide the right amount. There's a ridiculously high tolerance level before the depots get in trouble - something like 20% variances are permitted.

The parents are on a program. I think it costs 20$ every year, and once a week a compnay comes around and picks up paper, cardboard and plastic.
The GF-now wife once left her empties accumulate at her old APT. When she moved, it took longer to move all those cans then it did to move her ($76 worth...that was before beer cans were $.10 too).
Vowed never again to do that...so we have to blue $5 containers bought at WalMart..one has papers, one has cans. When either gets full, they're taken.
Simple, easy, and hassle free. Its the least one can do.

I was amazed when I moved here from Toronto last year and there wasn't curbside blue boxes for recycling in Calgary. It's been there for about 10-15 years now!
It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but I do take the items away for recycling. Didn't know about the batteries, though.

Agreed -- I complained to the guys in charge of regulating those depots a year or so ago, and got a response telling me about the "secret shopper" thing that someone else mentioned. It's not a 20% tolerable error though...more like 5 or 10% (I can't remember).
I specifically complained about the Bowness depot at the time, and the guy claimed that they passed their last secret inspection (actually paying out too much).

I go to beddington, and Plett is right, its the same their...
One month I bring in 2 bags, get $20
Next month bring in 3 HUGE bags, full of beer cans/bottles, got that same $20, like how stupid does "bottle depot" guy think I am, or does he just not care cause he knows he will get away with it

I thought it was just me. I know that shifty so-and-so is cheating me, he knows he's cheating me, but neither says anything.
Actually, by the time the counting is done, I just want to run out of those stinky smelly joints as fast as I can.
