For those who don't regularly follow the Heat, I made this and posted it over on the Heat forum showing how our roster has changed from opening day to the midway point (which was just over a week ago).
We had 3 holes in the Forward roster that hadn't been replenished and were being filled by ECHL'ers. Our defense remained relatively the same and goaltending pretty much the same:

Pretty much the reason this organization needs to do everything in their power to draft Ekblad. Our defensive prospects stink. Way too many people here fell in love with Cundari based on a very small sample while ignoring the fact that career AHLers rarely pan out into NHL regulars. I have higher hopes for Sieloff but I still see him as a long shot.

So Burke adds an asset without giving up anything? Cundari is still Flames property.
Pretty smart deal, IMO.
If Chicago likes him and want to keep him, they'll need to trade yet another player to Calgary.

^Im sure Chicago knows what they are getting in him, he did play for STL's AHL club long before we traded for him.

This is good for Cundari's development, let him QB the PP there and get a boatload of ice time. People read into things far too much.

Being this deal only involved AHL players and not something within the Flames roster, I wonder if this might be a Craig Conroy deal rather then a Burke one. Connie runs the day to day with the Heat and perhaps this was orchestrated by him as it was a no-loss to the Heat/Flames.

That lineup is looking like swiss cheese right now (no sven/berra pun intended). Locke will be a welcomed addition.
Maybe it'll spark some point production from Sven with having a new linemate.

Unfortunately Cundari became completely expendable and redundant when Feaster signed Billins and traded for Russell, two small defencemen who are better than Cundari. Requesting Cundari in the Bouw trade looks like a mistake by Feaster.

Playing with an offensive minded player like Locke could help get Baertschi going and building confidence again.

Thing is though, he's been playing with Reinhart (who has been on fire for the last month and a half) and Granlund. Those are a couple of pretty decent offensive players.

Yes, but when your depth is already lacking it helps to have more options. Locke puts up decent numbers in the AHL, he is another threat for the team. Whether he plays with Baertschi or on another line, it spreads out the other teams defensive focus. Win/win for the Heat..

Reminds me of the excitement over Brian Connelly.

Cundari is only 23 years old (24 in April), and a fourth year pro. He'll be an RFA at the end of the season, with a qualifying offer of $660,000.
Even if he's not in the long-term plans, he is still an asset with value for the Flames. He has had a decent level of success in the AHL, so they should be able to get something in return for him, even if it's just a late round pick or another young AHLer.
The Flames are going to have to find spots in the AHL for Kulak and Culkin, and possibly Kanzig and Roy next season, plus Sieloff will hopefully be fully recovered by the fall.

Wasn't he also the first player cut from camp this year?
Things are starting to snowball here in regards to how the organization views him.

It hasn't been the case this year... but Locke has been a mile better offensive player in the AHL than Granlund/Reinhart.

The Flames don't really get anything out of the deal besides a guy to play for the Heat. He's not on an NHL deal or property of the Flames.

That's exactly how I interpret it. Also just because he is not playing for Flames farm team Heat, it doesn't mean he is not on Flames plan anymore. Maybe Calgary Flames thinks Cundari might benefit in playing for the Wolves more than playing for the Heat. With the Wolves, he will play a lot more because they don't have as many talented young D. With the Heat, someone mentioned they have 10 Ds.
