Wow. Canucks tied for 2nd overall after struggling in net most of last season. Mango's definately addressed that need.

Seems pretty close but my guess would be :
Gretzky Top Five: Bruins, Thrashers, Rangers, Panthers, Sens
Gretzky Bottom Five: Nords, Flyers, Lightning, Caps, Devils
Howe Top Five: Ducks, Wild, Oilers, Jackets, Preds
Howe Bottom Five: Jets, Stars, Blues, Sharks, Canucks

How did you get that figure for the Hawks?
Belfour-79
Esche-78
Shouldn't that be 78.5 ?

I am being relaistic and have had to move some players around on a few teams to get a justified average.
If you can honestly tell me that you will be keeping both Eshe and Belfour as you 1/2 goalies...I'll change it but I dont think you will. I think you'll keep one of the better guys and Raycroft? Am I wrong? You've been shopping goaltenders now for awhile so i did the average based on comman sense.
Some teams also had 6 LW's and 2 RW's...as you would guess I had to switch a few guys to give me a decent average. I did the best I could.

looks like we'll be counting on our top 10 defense to help our woefully inadequate goaltenders... and praying that Weekes and Leighton have stand out years in the real NHL... or looking for a trade...

This number is not where the Pens want to be, however given that we have Khabby as our #1 rated 81 we will not worry so much about Freddy B's lowly 65 rating bringing us down, especailly when Khabby started 76 games last season
PS The Pens are looking for a upgrade in the backup position, if ya think you can help, drop me a line.

Who I keep will depend on the offers I get.
I figured you would take the top 2 if a team had 3 listed there.

MJK, I like your detailed approach to team ratings, and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
I'm not overly pleased at my standing at each position mind you, but I feel that the Blues will actually surprise quite a few people this year...the OV stats may not be great, but we'll be there when it counts.

So if a team had a 55ov RW'r showing in the big league do you think I would use that? Absolutly not. I looked in the minors and found someone who actually had a rating because that person will more than likely play in the big club versus the guy with a 55.
I used my judgement and I know you wont be going with both of those goaltenders. If you think you are, you are only kidding yourself.
Feel free to add up your numbers again...I'd be more than happy for you to post your own results. But mine would be more realistic.

^^^Not to get in the middle of this (but I will).
I think the issue is that right now based on the rosters Becky should have a better goaltending rating. In fact, I would guess she would be #1 with 3 goalies in the 70s. The assumption of her trading one of them is valid but that would likely mean she would receive a quality player back in one of the other areas.
That being said - it doesn't really matter. The analysis is a good baseline indicator of team strength but the proof will be in the pudding (mmmm. pudding). Everyone appreciates the workd you put into this Dave.

I can tell you that it really won't make a roll of beans according to the final OV ratings. Teams are so close that it might have bumped her up one spot but thats about it.

look at the negligible difference between the middle clubs... toss out their backup goalies who might play a handful of games, and you have a very competitive group there.

Wow. If this illustrates anything it is that there is going to be a dogfight in both divisions. Last year I thought there were a few teams that were clearly ahead of others at the start of the year. However it looks like things have evned out across the entire league to an extent. Should be a wild season.
Bruins suck.
