Hall-E.Staal-Giroux
Neal-Seguin-Lupul
Skinner, M.Richards

Giordano-Seabrook
M.Staal-Boyle
Phaneuf-Letang
Beauchemin, Green

Fleury, Crawford, Harding/Bernier

Where do you think this team would place if it were also in Sochi 2014?

This is totally fantasyland, and I know it doesn't hold the same clout as Olympics, but it would be cool if they opened the opportunity for multiple country teams if they ever get the World Cup up and running. Perhaps they can call it the Canada Cup again, as we would really be the only ones capable of fielding mutliple teams. If Russia did a mostly NHL squad and KHL squad it would be cool too.

Pool A:

Canada 1.0
Canada 3.0
USA
Russia
Switzerland

Pool B:
Canada 2.0
Sweden
Finland
Czech Republic
Slovakia

Tourney 2:

Pool C:
Slovenia
Latvia
Finland 2.0
Sweden 2.0
Czech 2.0

Pool D:
Slovakia 2.0
Austria
Norway
USA 2.0
Russia 2.0

4 Round Robin Games.

Top 4 out of Pools A & B have 8 team play-off.

5ths in Tourney 1 move down to Tourney 2. You either do a 12 team playoff like the NFL, or break into a top 8 playoff and bottom 4 consolation.

It would be great for development for all countries...Slovenia, Latvia, Austria and Norway would get the chance to play against some more comparable competition...

Logistics are nuts, but the TV viewership could be pretty outstanding when you triple the times Team Canada plays (and almost every game would be against a rival). I suppose it would probably dilute it though too.

Assuming this is Canada 2.0,

Couture-Thornton-St.Louis
Lucic-Spezza-Iginla
Hall-E.Staal-Giroux
Neal-Seguin-Ladd
Skinner, M.Richards

Giordano-Seabrook
M.Staal-Boyle
Phaneuf-Letang
Beauchemin, Green

Fleury, Crawford, Harding

Here is my try at CANADA 3.0

Perron - Ribiero - Burns
Cammalleri - MacKinnon - Eberle
Lupul - J. Staal - Little
Marchand - O'Reilly - Simmonds
Schwartz, Turris

Campbell - Girardi
Coburn - Wideman
Myers - Garrison
Bieksa, Brodie

G: Bernier, Mason, Elliot

This team wouldn't be that bad. They wouldn't contend for a medal but could probably finish middle of the pack.

Tried to make a Sweden 2.0. Goalies and D look OK, but forward depth is absolutely brutal

M.Johansson-C.Söderberg-Hörnquist
Pääjärvi-Backlund-Zibanejad
Ståhlberg-J.Andersson-Nyquist
Omark-Lindholm-Forsberg
Samuelsson
J.Lundquist

Hedman Brodin
Enström Lindholm
Grossman Gunnarsson
Strålman
Murray

Fasth
Lehner
Markström

Ryan Johansen isn't getting much love here for Canada 2.0. IMO should be right there.

Team Canada Olympic Roster – Take 2

- My entry via THW.

Giordano also anchoring the D on this squad; Wideman with honourable mention on D.

Quote:
What if Canada could take two squads to Sochi? In Olympic sports such bobsled, we see multiple entries, aptly named Canada 1 and Canada 2. How would a second team of leftovers stack up against the other nations and against the official Team Canada, that is, Canada 1. Canada’s depth as a hockey nation is unparalleled. While there are many competitive powerhouse countries when selecting one team, Canada could easily ice at least two very strong teams.

While we're at it... Here's my guess for the 2018 Olympic team:

Crosby, stamkos, Tavares, seguin, giroux, mackinnon, duchene, toews, Benn, McDavid, couture, Neal, and Monahan as the forwards (lots of centres I know)

Petrangelo, bouwmeaster, subban, Keith, doughty, Weber, G. Reinhart and D. Pouliot as the defencemen.

Price, Crawford, and mason as the goalies.
