Pretty sure Crosby meets your criteria with flying colors.

What's a true Captain and why isn't Crosby one?
Crosby went to last Olympics and is older/more experienced than the guy you want.

Not necessarily line combos, but:
Stamoks Crosby Tavares
Giroux Toews E. Staal
St. Louis Getzlaf Perry
M. Richards Bergeron Lucic
Carter/Benn

A veteran? Crosby is in his 9th NHL season, has over 500 NHL games, almost 100 NHL playoff games, is arguably the best player in the world and scored the Gold Medal winning goal in the last Olympics.

And leaving him (among a few other notable youngsters) off the 2006 team was their biggest downfall. Should have been there too.
Crosby as captain is a no-brainer
C- Crosby
A- Toews
A- Weber
A- Keith

No to Lucic. He is too slow and penalty prone.

Surprised to see Giroux left off of a few line ups on this page, yet was selected nearly 80% of the time in the main voting. He is a must... he started slow, but has quickly trended upwards. Ladd/Lucic/Marchand are all solid players, but Canada just has too many superior players to put them on the team. Came down to Benn vs. Neal vs. Couture to me... went with Couture.
Just say no to Staal, Thornton, Nash and Marleau this time around!

I'd honestly be pretty disgusted at the behind the scenes politics at Hockey Canada if either Hall or Eberle made the team. The only reason why they'd make the team would be through manipulation by Lowe and Katz.

I picked Giroux in the poll because his skill is undeniable, however, he's not a prominent player on my team canada roster.
Great fill-in player should injury strike but not one of Canada's top forwards.
If St. Louis is injured, Giroux is a great fill-in.
If Stamkos is injured, I'm not sure if the case is as strong for St. Louis, which means having Giroux on the taxi squad is more valuable.

I think Marleau is a lock personally. Babcock used him a lot last Olympics, and together with Couture they play all the tough minutes in SJ. Marleau is also one of the fastest players on Canada.

flameswin voted for both Hall and Eberle. Are we completely sure he hasn't been trolling the board for years now and is secretly an Oilers fan?
Should add Hopkins and Schultz to the poll and see if he votes for them.

Pretty surprised Jeff Skinner is not in the Poll.
Really fast...very good goal scorer.
19 goals and 31 points in 31 games.

I really, really want to know why you think Crosby isn't suitable to be captain for Team Canada? You must have your reasons, and a better alternative.

Over who though? I just don't see room for him in the top 12. If Stamkos isn't ready, I think there is more of an argument for him. Based on my roster, I think the guys I value more than others are Couture, Sharp, St. Louis, and Giroux... but for the life of me I can't see Marleau as being a better option than those guys.
