True, but how long? He was under contract with Anaheim when Burke brought him to Toronto. I actually think it is a long shot but I assume Burke will bring in one of "his guys". I doubt he will bring someone in who he doesn't have a pre existing relationship with.

For those that think its Nonis must not know he just signed on to a 5 year extension on top of the 3 he already has.

I don't know who I want to be GM to be honest, but given this, I wonder...

That's just Burke saying the GM position isn't on a silver platter. The successful candidate will need to prove their value during the competition.

Futa sounds very interesting. Fenton has been mentioned numerous times.
Please do not get Joe Niewendyk. There was nothing special in what he accomplished in Dallas.
Regier would be a strong candidate anywhere. Just wonder how fast the rebuild would go with him at the helm of making deals. As he tends to sit on them forever. But he absolutely won the crap out of the last three deals he made so there is that.

I'll put my name in the hat to be quite honest. I'll do whatever Burke asks of me. Like a puppet.

Yeah, if Shanahan didn't want Burke's job, why would he want to be his underling?

Shea Weber is a definite feather in his cap but Fenton hasn't been able to draft a decent forward for Nashville in forever.

I would hire the best GM in Calgary. Kelly Kisio.
The body of work is amazing. Playoffs 15 of the last 17 seasons. 2 championships. I honestly think that he has NEVER made a bad trade. An excellent judge of talent. Knows how to build a winning team. A Calgarian and a Flames alumni.
The fact that he has very little NHL experience would be mitigated by having Burke.
The only thing that I wouldn't like about the hiring is that he would no longer be with the Hitmen.

Someone who isn't going to clean house of small-ish players just cause Burke says so.
