Deerfoot Trail NB Closed at Beddington

The CPS FB page is now saying that Deerfoot is open in both directions (But, of course, still quite slow-moving).

They are also reporting that there have been 192 accidents (so far) today...

Forget tweeting traffic. The best information I've found for picking my route is google maps with the traffic filter turned on. I'm pretty sure they get the data from people's phone location services so it's updated all the time.

When I read threads like this it reminds of why I moved to small town.

Poor van driver that killed the truck driver. Regardless of wether charges are laid he will have to deal with the last memoriesof the accident.

I don't see what that has to do with living in a small town. People still drive over people in small towns too.

It has nothing to do with someone getting killed. It's just that we don't have the traffic problem nightmares the big cities have. Nobody is in hurry to get somehwere fast like a lot Calgary drivers are. That and it doesn't take very long to get anywhere here

I don't miss driving in Calgary and having to deal with idiot drivers who go too fast for the conditions.

I feel bad for the guy that was killed on Deerfoot. I couldn't imagine that he woke up this morning and had no idea that this would be his last day on the planet earth. Just an eery horrible thought. RIP.

Apparently he was in an accident and stepped out of his truck to inspect it and was hit by a car that lost control. Everyone should stay in their vehicles until it's absolutely safe to exit.

What's freaky is I thought of Hesla's ordeal and how, when he slid into a ditch, made the good decision to stay in his car, and as a result, he was not injured when another car slid into him. I know for sure after reading his incident and this one that in the future, I'll make sure to think twice and make sure it's absolutely safe before stepping out of my car should I find myself in a similar situation.

My dad killed a guy in a snow storm before I was born.

The guy who was killed ran out in front of him in a snow storm to catch a bus. My dad was charged and found not guilty.

Between that and his time in Vietnam, it screwed him up for life.

No, in small towns we don't have any of those problems.

We just have the farmers/rednecks/community member and their trucks with hips (dualies)/cars/vehicles stopping in the middle of the road to chat with their neighbor/friend/spouse in a vehicle on the other side of the road, thereby blocking all traffic from moving along, meaning it takes 2x as it should, to get anywhere.

And people are too in a hurry in a small town. Can't tell you how many times I've been tailgated for doing the posted speed limit, or tailgated for doing the posted school/playground speed during the posted times. I've even been passed in town, in obvious no passing zones, by people who figure that doing 70 in a 50 zone is a good reason for passing in town. I've watched other people get passed in town.

And let's not get started with everyone who doesn't have a clue how a 4 way stop works. Or how turn lanes work. Or how dual lanes work. Or who ignore posted speed limits. Or who park in the posted no parking zones, and so on and so forth. Yeah, no issues in small towns at all.

After driving in Strathmore for the last 7.5 years, I'd rather drive in Calgary any day of the week and twice on Sundays. About the only thing a small town sort of, kind of escapes is the mass congestion.
