A little tappety-tap on Ference's beak is called for IMO.

I think the 3rd and 4th line just go out of their way and make sure they finish their checks on him.

My thoughts exactly. Don't go out of your way to take runs at him, but I want to see every single Flames player finish their checks on Ference. Anything beyond that is kind of ridiculous.

I don't mean run him and take penalties. Definitely mean that every time he has the puck make sure you finish your check instead of skating by.

Since the Oilers have the last line change I wouldn't be surprised to see Ferrence lined up against Stempniak to warn him not to dare hit anyone (not like Stempniak really needs the warning) or risk losing the rest of his teeth.

If Stempniak 5-11 196 (Ferrence 5-11 187) is half the leader/mentor on this team that a lot of CP posters suggest he should be going after Ferrence the same way Gio went after Dustin Brown.

If Stempniak does not get 2 -3 good hits on Ferrence he should lose his place in the line-up.
Hilarious.

Anyways, now that MacDermid's in the lineup, expect him to be the first one to ring Ference's bell.
Is Stempniak a skilled player like Hudler and Cammalleri??? (Or Baertschi, or Backlund or Monahan or Brodie or Russell )?

With Byron in the line up (in Monahan's spot) and counting Stempniak there are 8 players out of 17 that MacDermid and McGrattan need to protect!!!???? That is 4 or 5 too many.

(I am including Butler or Smith)

That is a problem with having him in the lineup. There are just too many guys on the Flames that can't stand up for themselves.

In your MacDermid's pounding on Ferrence scenerio what stops Gadzic (who will be on the ice when MacDermid is on) from grabbing Stempniak and finishing off his season?

We should be putting all of their D through the glass. That includes Ference.

I'm more interested in seeing what Smid can do against the Oilers top 6. Hope this one gets a little nasty tonight -- both on the score sheet and in the trenches.

So your logical conclusion to Macdermid pounding on the Oiler's captain is for Gadzic to grab.......Stempniak?

Yeah, I'm done with you.

No but the BS hits + blocked shots toughness meter is.

The Oilers were 4-16-2 and about to go 4-17-2 before Ferrence said enough getting pushed around. Why are we taking hits from wimpy guys like Stempniak? He was fed up and not going to take it any more. He showed the kids on his team that you have to stand up and push back. That is what leaders do.
During the 6-2 record the Oilers have played 3 teams in the play-offs 5 out. They are 1-2 against the play-offs teams, getting whipped twice and 5-0 against the non-play-off teams, with 5 games at home.

Ference didn't show the young guys they don;t have to take it. He didn't spark his team to play better. The schedule maker handed Edmonton a easy stretch of games where they were able to get some points against some bad teams and show they weren't close to the good teams.

Ference didn't turn around Edmonton's season at all with that play. He didn't even come close to turning that game around, if any one player did it was Berra.

Is Stempniak a leader?
I have no idea and don't really care. I am not really sure what it has to do with anything.

From the outside he looks as much a leader as most secondary type vets of his ability are. No more or less than the average guy and no more or less than Andrew Ference.

The threat of suspension, the Oilers going on the PK and losing the game when they are trying to make play-offs (lol), the "code".

I don't really see why anyone has a problem with what Ference did.

Stempniak rocked Ference beore he touched the puck. Ference went after him and Stempniak dropped his gloves.

If Stempniak wanted to hit guys without the puck and not have to deal with the consequences he could have easily chose to turtle.

He didn't and lost the fight. No biggie.

Puck wasn't there? Good thing we've got an oilers fan around to see things clearly. It's amazing no one else including the refs saw it as a penalty in any way.

Anyone who thinks things don't carry on from game to game - especially among rivals - is dreaming.

Ference made a statement for his team. Good for him.

The Flames need to answer with a statement of their own. I am not suggesting gooning him or someone else. But the Flames HAVE to show the Oilers that they are going to play them tough and not take crap like that.

Watching that oilers/Avs game the other night it was amazing how one sided the officiating was in the Oilers favour. I expect much the same again tonight.

I hope the Oilers get favourable reffing every night so that management will continue to think all is well.

With enough good reffing, they could just finish 10th!

He should but he won't. I also think that if Stempniak wants to play a physical game, he has to be ready for things like that.

They were both going into the corner to get the puck and engaged each other. Nothing illegal by Stempniak on that play. Ference got the worst of it and was embarrassed. He should have been given an instigator. Refs dropped the ball.
