I'm guessing it's not the worst thing to be a star athlete at a sports crazed college and being the talk of the town. I'm sure he gets his fair share of hot college girls.
Where's the link, otherwise its just hearsay

That's debatable... Plenty of brainless idiots with screws loose like Ben Eager.
I'm not a fan of the officiating in the AHL and I think I'd feel more comfortable with his safety in the big league.

I sure hope he has a stellar two way game or Bob will find a warm spot in the press box for him right next to the other kid.

I really like what the kid had to say, shows he's smart and already mature thinker. Not all players that age would be cerebral enough to to make those thoughtful. Good sign for what he could be moving forward.
Maybe it's just me though, but nothing he said makes me feel like he's definetley sign here. All I heard was that he likes Calgary (smart thing to say in case he does sign here). But signing hasn't happened yet and it will when it will. What I took from all of that was that he's a kid who truly understands he's got options, knows the right thing to say and will consider his options, which includes signing here.

As a player with <50 NHL games, he's getting 14 minutes a night. When he's more noticeable with those 14, he'll get more. Hint hint.

I wish the NCAA would change their rules and allow their students to sign pro deals but obviously not play any pro games. Ban signing bonuses if you want as well. NHL teams can bypass that by giving them a bonus after one played game
Or at least make the players re-enter the draft like unsigned junior players instead of making them UFAs.

Exactly... back-hand saucer passes at the blueline? The Flames will kill that quickly.

Maybe Sven is going to play with McDavid?

It is still too early to really think of lines and pairings, but it is hard not to be excited. Sven will be fine - and Sven will be a key piece moving forward on the left side. Gaudreau hopefully will be fine as well - outside of a couple of BC games where York apparently had him cherry-picking without regard to defence (I didn't watch that game myself - just read about some comments), Gaudreau normally back-checks and puts pressure on the puck-carrier, as well as uses his IQ to intercept passes/break-up plays. Of course he will need to improve for the NHL level, just like everyone else, but he isn't useless defensively.
You shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch, but if everything works out, the first two pairings of a Sven and Johnny on the left side, with a Monahan and Jankowski in the middle? High-hockey IQ everywhere and the ability to make high-end plays. If Poirier develops nicely (and I am really, really hoping for Ferland), those top two lines will all have loads of speed, grit, skill and IQ. Of course you can't count on everyone developing and hitting near their ceiling, just nice to imagine.
Not bad for year one of the rebuild. There will be other guys drafted that will supplant a few others in those top two lines, so it isn't like all these guys are a 'must' to develop properly in order for the Flames to have success. I just really love how in year 1 of the rebuild, there are some tangible high-upside prospects in the system, and the competition for spots is only increasing every season.
No offence to Arnold who I really love as a prospect too, but throwing out another one or two high-end players who can really work well with Gaudreau just might be something special.

Of course he wants to play for the flames and so do other NCAA players, other teams prospects, soon to be drafted players, ect. Rebuilding sucks for fans, but its the best chance for young players to make the team. Not to mention its a Canadian market with fan support, owners that will spend money at anytime, ect.

Or perhaps as Flames fans who are getting more losses than wins, don't need any light being dimmed at the end of this long and dark tunnel by you?
Sometimes fans just need to put some blinders on now and then, and enjoy the moments while they can, especially in a season like this. They don't need to be constantly reminded about every plausible negative attribute that you can think of.

What is the "every possible negative attribute" that I in particular am bringing? My stance on Hartley for a long time has been that he's not a good NHL head coach and I'm certainly not alone in that thinking and quite frankly that's growing every month as he plays favorites with goaltenders and other players. I don't say that in every single thread and keep it to relevant ones. It's not like I'm in every game thread blaming Butler, Glencross, etc for every mistake they make in a game.
I always thought that this team would be picking top 5 this year so it's not my fault that some of you are having a hard time coping with reality. I'm a member of many fan forums and I laugh at people that think there is some standard of fan forums where everyone is happy and it always smells like roses. It simply doesn't exist even if it's a fan forum for an elite team.

Actually, I thought the Flames would be picking top 5 also. I also don't think every post needs to be sunshine and roses either. However, a bit of a hypocritical post telling another poster he needs to take a break, no?
The reality of the situation is how you see it. If you are predicting that the Flames would finish bottom five, then why are you still being negative? You should be more pleasantly surprised with some of the positives, no? I am not saying you are a bad poster - I actually like the insights you give from time to time. However, you do go on stretches of focusing a bit too much on the downside of things - similar to Moon in a number of ways. Do you have to change (or should you even try)? Of course not. You are free and welcome to post as you wish, however you wish. Just when someone disagrees with your posts, you shouldn't tell them to take a break from the forum either.

Seriously?
I have no problem with people having different views. If I did, the last thing I would do is participate in a forum. Telling another poster he needs a break is what the issue is. Thanks for your keen insight though.

As I recall, you were constantly banging the drum about how "It's the players, not the coach, core is rotten, Iginla is telling the team not to backcheck, country club mentality, etc, etc"
Now it's the coach who has the worst lineup since 1998's fault the Flames are this bad? The Flames are this bad because they don't have any stars anymore. Who's having a hard time coping with reality?
