Bolded basically describes Mr. Glencross' season so far to a "T".
Not sure I'd go as far as to call him the worst player on the Flames.
I'm not going to argue that Versteeg played good because he was pretty much crap, but for a guy coming off an injury with his track record, there is no way he was even close to the worst player on the Panthers.
Playing like the worst and being the worst are far from the same thing.
Difference being the Panthers dealt with Versteeg by limiting his minutes and eventually scratching him while the Flames continued to trot Glencross out there for 20+ minutes.
Like I said, I meant that he played the worst. I don't mean that he's the worst in some abstact sense. At least a grinder has a job to do. He didn't seem like he had a job on the team that he either wanted or was capable of doing. That made him useless, and useless with a bad attitude. Glencross hasn't sunk to that level.
Smart trade by Chicago. Versteeg will probably get back to form and quit being the tool he has been since leaving Chicago in the first place. It's amazing what a change of scenery makes- especially some scenery you are happy to be part of.

The reactions show that I did in fact use overly strong language. I wish I had chosen a more subtle and therefore convincing way to crap on Versteeg, I'll admit that much.
Location: Chicago Native relocated to the stinking desert of Utah

Of the guys that the 'Hawks failed to retain after the 2009-10 season, Versteeg was the one that 'Hawk fans complained the least about losing. A good offensive player, but with occasional lapses in judgment, his "Hockey IQ" was sometimes questioned. On that squad, he was on a 3rd line with Bolland and Ladd...so he was expected to play D and generate "secondary" scoring...
I haven't watched much Panther hockey...but if he can improve, with some of the guys he was developed with, it is a low risk move for the 'Hawks.
It didn't look like Hayes or Olsen were going to get a shot at the NHL level...the 'Hawks have a few 3/4th winger types that they are higher on, and have a few young D-Men that are about ready too.

The Hawks have also been very correct about their choices of who stays and leaves and they have proven extremely adept. The fact that they picked him back up was no error.
Maybe he can find his way again in Chicago where he can hide behind the likes of Toews, Kane, Hossa and Sharp and be a key player in a support role instead of being one of the offensive leaders. You can tell he has a big ego and he didn't handle being a healthy scratch in a professional way.
Since Jimmy Hayes isn't in chicago anymore, maybe we can get his brother Kevin Hayes (Often a linemate of Johnny Hockey) off them too.

A little late to the party but...
Maybe you could have crapped on him in a more subtle way true But I agree with your sentiments 100% having watched almost all of Floridaīs games this season.
Versteeg absolutely needed to go. Itīs not that he is not skilled enough for Florida (of course not). But Florida has a core of very young guys at the moment and Versteeg was one of the veterans on that team and lacked commitment, right attitude and work ethic. Just a really bad example of a veteran guy and what he should be like for the young guys.
Obviously itīs not a very good deal for Florida but if you look at the deal from a value perspective it also says where Versteegīs value had sank. Change of scenery and a smaller role will probably help him though.

Some guys just aren't that great when they have to be "the guy". Especially if they don't have the best work ethic, he will be forced to work hard again playing on that Toronto team.
Versteeg will head back to Chicago, be able to play behind Toews, Hossa, Kane, & Sharp, and will get back to his 20 goal, 40-50 point form. At $2.2 million it will end up being a steal.

Last game before he was injured Glencross with a goal and assist to lead the Flames to a 3-2 win over the hawks in Chicago...... IN Chicago.... That may very well be the highlight of this re-building season for this Flames team.
Even the disinterested Glencross was playing against the other teams biggest/best lines..... with a stretch with Ben Street as his centre. The disinterested floater Glencross had 22 hits in his 15 games along with 13 blocked shots. That leaves him in 6th and 8th place on the Flames despite missing 4 games.
In stats that are easy to understand and hard to argue he was scoring at a 26 goal rate for a full season.
Since Glencross has been hurt the Flames are 0-3-1. Monahan has got 1 assist in these 4 games and is -2. If these were the last 4 games of his 10 game try out chances are Monahan would be back in juniors.
Talented big guys that the other team has to account for makes the match ups a lot easier for Monahan, Hudler, Stajan, Backlund so they can win their battles.

My only interest in trading GlenX is his high presumed value to a win now contender looking to add scoring depth to their 2-3 lines. Without a ton coming back, I would never trade him.
Word is that every veteran in Florida is available for trade. I'd say the only player in that group that I'd recommend to any team this season would be Shawn Matthias. Great size and speed for the bottom-6. Fleischmann looked pretty good earlier in the season when he was with Barkov.
