Eakins was Mact's hire so I don't think they will fire him this season as it just makes Mact look bad. My guess is they will make a trade avoiding any responsibility at the management level.
If you get bored of MacT's incoherent rambling, just jump to the 1:45 minute mark where KLown steals the show.
"I think it's safe to say that half the GM's in the league would trade their roster for our roster"
Hahaha
I forgot how embarrassingly bad that press conference was. Both of them come off as completely oblivious. Why are they even referencing a team from 20+ years prior?
Edmonton will go on a run at some point this season but will still miss the playoffs. The stretch of good play will be enough to satisfy fans and management though.
Then we get to do this all again next year.

Wow thanks for digging that up again, so funny to see it. I heard it when it was making the rounds, but hadn't seen it. the look on his face when he's getting questioned is classic. Also loved MacT and what's his pickle staring at him when he started ranking fans.
MacTavish comes across as pretty bright, Lowe comes across as a huge problem.
Browna, great summary man, that was classic as well.
Who's going to make him fall on his sword? The owner is some dude who lives in Vancouver, and probably doesn't give a damn about the performance because he got his arena.
This tragedy will remain for years.
I find it more comedy than tragedy.

I like Mac-T. Always have. He squeezed a lot of ability out of some really ####ty Oilers teams. The main constant has been Lowe, and he needs to be fired, but even he doesn't play the game on the ice. The players themselves just aren't good enough/mesh together well enough. A bunch of that has to do with management, certainly, but when your team is spilling over with high draft picks and they still can't get the job done a couple years down the line (and I don't mean win the Cup kind of job, but finish in a position besides close to dead last), they need to share some of that blame.

I took my friend to this game as her first ever hockey game. She was blown away how negative the crowd was. She said "why do they even buy tickets if they are just going to boo all night, if you show up and boo, they still get paid. If you just don't show, wouldn't that be a stronger message?"

The owner is a bLowehard so Lowe is set for life no matter what. Eakins has about 10 games before he's gone, and Mac T will have no choice but to start assigning blame to players just like they tried to scapegoat Souray out of the league in an attempt to distract everyone from Lowe's incompetence.
You know what I find funny is that fans seem to single out one element on this team that needs to be fixed. Its either Lowe's fault, the top 6's size and grit fault, lack of the bottom 6's veteran presence, lack of puck moving defenseman, lack of defensive defenseman, lack of good goaltending or a crappy head coach.
I wonder if the fans and oilers management will ever realize it's all of the above.

Will Eakins be fired? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Should he be fired? No. Since 2000, the Oilers have had three GMs. They've had five head coaches in the same time, four since 2009. They've shuffled players in and out. They've had three number one picks in the past four years. The only constants have been Katz and Lowe. And the results have not changed. As long as those two are pulling the strings, the Oilers are not going to improve.
I've been listening to Oiler post-game radio for he past few games (just for a little sport) and the overwhelming thing that has come out of that for me is that pretty much everyone - fans, the media on both stations, the coaches, and even the players - all keep spewing the same blind message:
"we need to get healthy" "no need to panic yet, let's wait until we're healthy, then assess"
Have they had injury problems? Of course.
But if anyone thinks these problems are new, or that the team is playing badly and lacks heart because of injuries, well they are flat out delusional.
And there will always be injuries - especially to a small team that plays the style they play.
As you listen to this over and over, this built-in excuse, piped out from every corner of the organization, you realize just how far away thy are from fixing the problems.
After all this time, and all these repeated failures, they still don't have a clue what the real problems are.
