definite sign that there's more to come
doesn't make sense for the avs to add another centre for the reasons already mentioned
and doesn't make sense for philly to take on more money, surely more to come

At what point does Couturier have to actually produce instead of being annoited as part of a 'crazy' top 9.

anybody else think Downie would be useful in a flames uniform? i love his game. would be great for the up and coming kids - unless of course he's a total headcase. is he? seems to have had a tough ride so far in his career despite his skills.

I can vividly imagine an incident between Roy and Downie after him getting demoted to third line. In a way that he had to be traded. Let the conspiracy theories begin!

Well, between Downies reported hearing issues and the "two rings" plugging Roys ears, it easy to imagine the two had communication issues.

Horrible trade for Colorado. There has to be something else to it (Off ice issues, etc).

Downie is a UFA at season end while Talbot is locked in 2 more years earning less than his cap hit

Hey guys..........I deleted a few posts that were speculating some off ice issues that we don't want discussed here.
Let's just talk about the trade and leave some of the other speculation out of it.
Thanks!

I thought Downie would bring back more if they decided to trade him.
However, I can also see why they would make a trade like this. They may want to re-unite Parenteau with Duchene, and want a solid defensive presence with MacKinnon. Roy also likes to have his PKers not a part of the top-6.

Seems odd Varlamov situation and Downie trade happens within 24 hours. I wonder if there is a connection??

Clearly the problem is that Downie is an out-of-control maniac, and the Avs don't want someone with those sorts of character issues in their lineup.
Oh, waitaminute . . .

That really shouldn't factor into the conversation considering the Avalanche's great start, imo.
I wouldn't want Feaster dealing a better player for a lesser player just because of contracts statuses.

Told #Avs & #Flyers had been talking for some time about Downie/Talbot swap. Colorado had no intention of re-upping Downie at seasons end.

Maybe Varlamov made Downie stand naked in a team bus bathroom

I think schenn and couturier are good players who are still developing but I think their ceiling might be at best what carter and Richards already are... So they traded away guys who are proven performers for prospects that may or may not reach their potential. I know they also got solid wingers like Simmons in the deal but they were the kinds players that they could have gotten while holding onto Richards and carter.

Philly was a Jokinen shootout goal away from missing the playoffs the year they went to the finals. Aside from that, I just can't agree. They managed to find mojo against Boston in the playoffs after going down 3-0, but that's all I can think of.
If there's any team that has been overrated over the past few years, it's the Flyers.

Can't be much of a forward group that gets 6 points in 11 games. In the East.
