In all honesty, that is shocking news and hopefully his gf is ok. No respect for someone who beats women - alcohol or not.
Hopefully he gets deported but probably won't - sports figures tend to get away with everything.

I wonder if conviction on any of the counts would affect his immigration status? Would his visa be revoked, even if pleads guilty to the misdemeanor as plea bargain, for instance?

After February would be preferable though. Keep him in the States until then.

- Varli's gf claims he beat her up in a "drunken rage"
- Happened in the past (according to victim)
- Threw her into the wall, she went to the floor and he was stomping on her
- Happened Tuesday Morning
- Victim hospitalized (bruising)
Still unclear about kidnapping? ...

If her allegations are true, this is a wee bit more serious than I was expecting based on my (apparently poor) interpretation of the charges. Again, he is innocent until proven guilty, but domestic violence has allegedly happened in the past between Varlamov and his girlfriend. Yikes, what a terrible situation all around.
I would guess there will be market for Ryan Miller shortly, "Miller to the Avs!" - e5

Once again, that incident has nothing to do with the fans or the team. South of the border players will bring along their south of the border behavior.

If this report is true then I have no respect for that at all. You beat up your gf multiple times? That is trash. Hope he gets a large punishment.

The whole media report has a sketchy feeling to it...
Why is she sending out glamour shots (not injury photos) hours after the news broke to be posted up through her lawyer?
Why is the lawyer talking about an open case based on one persons (victim) account... I don't know, it just has a weird vibe to it all

There's obviously a lot more to this story than what we've been told thus far. Probably a LOT more.

Yeah just been digging into this more, news reports out of Russia (reporters who have spoke with Varli's father) - His father isn't worried, said's no crime had been committed. Media fanned the situation... will be interesting to see what the police report will say tomorrow

Figures the gf would Continue to stay with him despite being beaten multiple times..... That's some true loyalty right there. That or she must be willing to die for those nice purses, jewelry and wardrobe (some women..). this just feels like something that could have been easily defused before the consequences were irreversible if either side had an ounce of sense. What a shame.

OR a POS hockey player abused a woman and you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm withholding judgement until more information is released. I haven't heard anything of this kidnapping charge yet.

According to Sportbox.ru the goalkeeper of "Colorado" and the Russian national team Semyon Varlamov had a quarrel with his girlfriend Eugenia Vavrinyuk who came to him to the United States. Hockey player's girlfriend was born in Samara and is not an American citizen as reported by some media. Varlamov already broke relations with her, but recently they started living together again.
On Tuesday, after another quarrel goalkeeper drove his girlfriend and her personal belongings out of the apartment. After that she consulted with her attorney and filed a complaint to the police, saying that Semyon pushed her. Before trial Varlamov is detained in a solitary confinement. Trial will begin on Thursday at 18 pm Moscow time.
Attorney of Eugenia Vavrinyuk state that Semyon was intoxicated by alcohol, however, everyone who knows Semyon and who was interviewed by Sportbox.ru, argue that goaltender does not drink alcohol.

If this story is true, things just got significantly better for Varly.

Pretty bad if the allegations are true. I also had him in my hockey pool and think I will be dropping him.

It's hard not to want to crucify someone when you hear the allegations.
I remember when similar allegations were made against Zigmund Palffy a few years back and half the board had him guilty. Then a short while later, the charges were quietly thrown out.
It's best to wait for the whole story, but if he is guilty, I hope he gets the book.
