In most cases if you've got even a slight leg/ankle injury they are going to throw you in a boot so you don't aggravate it. I wouldn't read a tremendous amount into it.

Stempniak was also in a boot today, and didn't partake in the practice. Cammi was not practicing either

Yup it did .. A lot like the trance/dubstep one below mine. I mean I added the picture for reference of the joke too? Oh well ... I can't hit a HR every time I step to the plate. I'll do better next time coach.

Did he sustain this injury from blocking a shot? I know we all love it when Gio steps up to block shots, he's one of the best in the league at it. And that was all well and good when he was 2nd pairing. But now, he's our captain and best defender. Is losing him 6-8 weeks worth those blocked shots? Again, maybe this injury wasn't even from blocking a shot. Just my thoughts.

On the bright side (if there is any), the Flames will get a chance to evaluate the D in the system. Trial by fire, in a way.

...you want our captain, and best defender to stop playing good defense and become complacent?

Such a drag that Sieloff has a staph infection. This would have been the perfect opportunity for him.

Tough break (pun intended) for Gio. He was looking like he might have a career year, and really set the tone for the team with his leadership.
This will be a huge test for our defense prospects and group as a whole. I like some of our prospects, but the NHL group is pretty thin without Gio. I'm not sure we can ask any more from Wideman and Russel. Brodie has a huge opportunity to step up. Butler will be leaned on heavily, which is frightening. And then we'll see how O'Brien, Smith, and prospects who platoon in and out manage.

The way he plays, I'm afraid he will often be dealing with injuries.

They should bring up Cundari.
Wideman - Russell
Brodie - Butler
Shane O' Rama - Smith
I hate Butler but the coaching staff played him for 24 minutes last game so I don't think he will be replaced. Instead, he'll play top 4 minutes.
I wouldn't mind Cudari seeing time on the 3rd pairing.
