The reasons players like Miller chose not to play in EDM mostly apply to CGY as well.
Except it's more about timing for Calgary. They're not likely to be successful for the next couple years, whereas Edmonton is just a complete hole and it would still be a problem even if they weren't the joke of the league.

What would be silly but completely possible.

Edmonton is the only NHL city that I wouldn't want to live in (in fact, I have turned down jobs in Edmonton). I would live in Winnipeg only because I used to live in the area and know a lot of people there. Buffalo I could take or leave.

Not really.

No Flames GM (who's now the team president) asked a player to give back money in order to get traded.

No Flames GM (who's now the president) enticed a star defenseman to join thier team with the promise of other star players getting acquired...to get no-one else, asking said star player to ask to be traded within 3 months.

That sort of underhanded, behind the scenes two faced-ness resonates largely within the PA, and the Heatley, Nylander and countless others (who you'll never know, invoking NMC's) demonstrates that.

As much as Feaster had done last year to start to turn the Flames off ice reputation among the PA in the same direction, it pales in comparison to a decade of Lowe sinking the Oilers reputation, which continually restricts their options to improve via free agency and trades, and their left with high draft picks and no solid NHL players to required to supplement the lineup properly.

Honestly I would much rather live in Calgary then the Midwest and 98% of the USA. I'd probably say Edmonton over 80% of them. I have many non-canadian friends that would agree with that too.

Agreed. The Oilers hockey team and management stink.

I was only talking about the cities and the fact that for most Americans or non-westerners, places like Calgary and Edmonton are interchangeable, end-of-the-earth, somewhere-out-there hick towns. As a Calgarian living in NY, I know this well.

Anyways, it doesn't really matter and in the spirit of the thread: ha ha stupid Oilers.

The perception of Edmonton has more to do with the organization than anything else. People assume it's because the city literally smells like poop, but while that's a factor, I think more emphasis is put on the Oiler's unmatched ability to be absolutely terrible all the time.

Mike Comrie.

Got a bonus, asked to be traded, Lowe demanded the money back.

Everyone had a good laugh, Comrie got what he wanted, Lowe is an idiot.

Lowe had a trade with the Ducks. Comrie for Corey Fricken Perry AND a 1st round draft pick. But he wanted Comrie to give the Oilers $2.5M back from the bonus money he earned on his ELC. So Lowe traded him to the Flyers instead.

This is such an awesome sequence of events that we couldn't make up a better story

Ha ha. Stupid Oilers

I had completely forgotten about Perry being part of it.

Wouldn't Perry look good on the Oilers right now...

This, any player looks at the owner making an a$ out of himself a completely incompetent management team lead by the one of the worst hockey executives in NHL history. Combine that with a coach that already seems over his head. A blue line that couldn't defend against a bunch of fat chicks from jersey and you get put on the no fracking way you can trade me there list quick fast and in a hurry.

The team could be the hot hooker and blow town Oilers and nobody would want to play there.
