I agree Kootenay FF, but we will need to add some Vet's and $$ to our roster next year. For 2 years, money is not really an issue. If you could trade, for example Stajan and Cammi, for the Twins would you? That is essentially what we would be replacing them with (just at a higher cost).
Without good Vet's to help develop young players, you end up with an Oil-Change.
If they are going to sign some UFAs for some decent cash I'd rather put that towards someone closer to 27-28 than I would players in their mid-30's.
If they have that much cap space and need to get to the floor I'd like to see Feaster make a trade to take on a short term big contract along with a decent asset for some of the Flames' garbage.
They just need to get to the cap floor, as long as they do that I don't want them spending money just for the sake of spending money.
Stay the course, become a drafting and developing team. Move you guys into roles on your roster and turn them into core players. Only go UFA to compliment those guys, don't go fishing for core players.

This team will never have to worry about hitting the floor. Look how many vets still haven't found a home. Just over-pay 1 year terms on a few vets, even if they get stuck on the third and fourth lines - as long as they are the types of players that is conducive to the locker room and support the players on the ice.
