My understanding of pink slime is not that it is simply mechanically separated meat from typically rarely used muscles of the animal but rather meat that you can not used because of significant bacterial contamination unless you kill that bacteria with, well, what amounts to windex. They wash the meat with ammonia and then remove/rinse the ammonia away.
It's personally not something I ever want to eat (and believe me I'm not a hard core anti-processed food guy AT ALL), but that is really quite disgusting.
Personally whether or not McDonalds uses this I just shocked that somehow people still eat at McDonalds and Taco Bell to begin with. Any place you go you will easily find better food for similar price at on off restaurants or smaller more local chains. It constantly amzes me around here how as I look across the street from a Culver's or Freddy's that the parking lot to McDonalds is always full (not saying Culver's or Freddy's are tremendous but the food is several steps above McDs)

Which parts of the cow are used which are normally inedible?
Jamie Oliver didn't say specifically, and that makes me think he is just adding that to increase the scare factor.
I think what he is doing is good, but I really am questioning how he got this info when he isn't even sure of what machine or process they use to do it. The reason I am doubting it is because it conflicts the 12 years I spent in the meat industry, 5 of which in the same plants which provide the meat to McDonald's.

I dont know what kind of company people keep these days, and it sounds like most of CPers hang out or are larger people themselves, but most who eat healthy on a regular basis end up slimming down, its why trainers tell you 80% of weight loss is dependent on diet

Nice Magazine stock photo. That wasn't in the last week, not even close. Notice the name "Shutterstock" below the photo in the article?
Here's another set of photos taken at the same place same day where he's sporting his double chin

here's an article from last year where Jamie is offended by Journalists asking about his weight gain during his healthy eating campaign
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2...ds-his-weight/
Quote:
Celebrity chef and healthy eating enthusiast Jamie Oliver was on the defensive Tuesday when asked by reporters if he’d put on a few pounds.
“I don’t know. I am very healthy,” he told Australia’s Herald Sun. “Are you from a tabloid? Thank you for noticing, you b***h.”
The Naked Chef was down under to launch the first Australian Ministry of Food, a school that offers free cooking lessons and healthy-eating education. But questions about his weight, prompted by pictures of the 36-year-old fresh off a plane and looking slightly puffy, quickly shifted the focus from public health to Oliver’s own.
|
Here's what he looked like in Australia in 2012 where reporters questioned his weight
even fellow British Chef Gordon Ramsay had something to say about this too
Quote:
The F-Word star said Oliver’s US show Food Revolution was shelved after just two seasons after pictures emerged of him looking chubby.
Speaking on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man, aired on Channel 4 tonight, he said: “You have to be very careful when you go across the pond and want to dictate to Americans about healthy eating.
“If you’re not in that best shape yourself then you have to be very careful.”

Maybe the guys excersise routine has fallen off, who knows? Even if you eat well (which even as a chef isn't saying a whole lot. They tend to use a lot of butter and cream etc..), you have to burn more calories than you intake to avoid gaining weight. A lot of people's fitness plans drop off in middle age.

So, King Hippo, you equate healthy eating with being in some kind of peak physical condition?
I just don't see Jamie Oliver saying that kids shouldn't be eating trans fats, mechanically separated ammonia washed meat, and massive doses of HFCS as something offensive even if he has put on a few pounds.
I ride my bike a ton, work out, (if less often than I should), and eat reasonably (very little processed food and don't eat out much), I have ideal blood pressure and a resting heart rate around 50-60 and consider myself healthy, but I'm also probably 20-25 lbs over an ideal weight. There's eating healthy and being healthy, and then there's being a model physical specimen. They're all different things.
The fact that you take umbrage at his efforts to educate the public about healthy food choices is nothing short of bizarre.
Full fat cream is not particularly unhealthy if used in moderation, I'm not sure the same can be said about pink slime meat filler. What nutritional needs does it satisfy?

Yes, he's a chef, and chefs do get fatter. But when you're a Chef who's preaching healthy eating, at least don't look like a hypocrite and not incorporate healthy eating in your own diet
|
When you make a pasta side dish you don't make 4 servings for yourself, but you do make it taste the best you can. The nutritional difference between the two options I posted earlier is home cooked ingredients vs fast food and that nutrition is huge. It's the portion control that is important.
Also it was just an example.

It's funny that many of you are coming to his defense which is telling cause you're probably either fans of Jamie Oliver and likely own some of his products or you're just as big or larger than Jamie and take offense to being called fat
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big guy myself, and I like to eat. Big difference is that I'm not in denial of my size and I'm in no position to tell other people how to eat, let alone eat healthy. I'm not a role model. What Jamie is doing, is hypocritical. It's like a coke addict going on TV to spread the word of the evils of cocaine and lecturing kids at schools to never get into drugs but then proceeds goes off to snort some more off camera.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the message of eating healthier and getting fast food companies to be more responsible, it's the motivation behind the message that's questionable.
Jamie Oliver isnt so much interested in changing diets of people, but trying to get free publicity for his branding on foods, cookbooks, cookware and TV series. The fact that he's gotten fatter since years he's gone on this healthy eating campaign goes to show that he doesn't care for his own message, but rather for his own profitability and fame.

Isn't that what is done, though? Smokers with cancer saying "don't smoke", criminals in jail scaring kids straight, and even coke or meth addicts scaring kids away from drugs? Poor choice of metaphor, IMO.

Dude, you sound like a hurt man who is jaded from trying over and over again to be healthy with no results, therefore, you're projecting a bunch of your own anger and mistrust on a man who doesn't deserve it.
You need to look in the mirror and seriously assess where this is coming from. You seem to be the only one on here pushing this particular narrative, so that should tell you something. I hope you find a way to get past whatever it is that hurt you. Sincerely.

You have got to be some sort of unhinged troll. Who joins a Flames forum to only post in one thread on Jamie Oliver...?!
