Id have my lines like this, if Monahan beats stajan for 3c then try and trade stajan for draft picks

Baertschi-Backlund-Cammalleri
Glencross-Galiardi-Stempniak
Hudler-Monahan-Jones
Bouma-Knight-Ferland
McGrattan

Brodie-Giordano
Wideman-Russell
O'Brien-Sieloff
Butler

Ramo
Berra

yes; can anyone confirm how bad Cundari was? Did he look fat? Or full of mental errors? I thought at the end of last season he was a lock for sure

Feaster is going to be on The Fan at 4:40, so we should get some clarification about the moves then.

Only real surprise to me is Cundari. My guess is we'll see him called up later in the year though, thought he was great in those last few games last season.

Presume Wotherspoon must have beat him out for a spot. (acquiring O'Brien & Russel didn't help his chances either)

No surprises here.

Worst thing about Byron is that we could have gotten a way better version of him for nothing in Gerbe.

Also Nemisz can't skate.

Good call -- I imagine it factored in to the decision an awful lot.

You forgot Stajan, but otherwise that's what I'd have too. (unless Monahan really impresses send him back down after 9 and Stajan gets the spot on that line)

Kanzig sticking around. The flames management must really like him.

Why? He still has to go through waivers no matter when he is sent down. Plus even if he was last cut, i don't see any team taking him if he can't beat out Smith, Butler or Russel.

He played well. I think this boils down to the NHL roster already having a few guys of his ilk and him just being the odd man out. Sieloff and Ramage are more stay-at-home types, Wotherspoon and Kanzig have more size. Then you also have guys like Smith and Butler clgoging up the depth chart.

Plus Billins stays but Cundari is sent down? Not sure about that.
I'm surprised about cundari too. Was hoping for him to make the team this year... He might have been sent down cause the flames would rather leave a spot for a shutdown type of defenseman instead of another puck moving defenseman like cundari.

I'm also surprised about the centers.

Way too many. In two scrimmage games remaining they can't even fit them all in the middle for evaluation. Talk about jam packed. should have sent down Street, BJones, Begin, Reinhart. I'm on the fence about Granlund but I'm glad they're giving him a longer look.

I doubt the 2 way contract was any factor with the decision.

Their is still 13 Dman in camp (2 of which are hurt .. Breen and Seiloff).

Most likely Cundari has a hole in his game and was asked to work on something...

I just meant as opposed to a player like Russel on a one-way. I'm not worried about losing him on waivers.

Stajan is not going anywhere and will be one of the top two centres. Backlund needs to be moved to the wing, I think he would be much better there than at C.

Money? The difference is $500,000, if he's not regularly drawing into the line up that's a nice little savings of actual salary for the Flames. I'm not saying it should be the most important factor, far far from it, but it has to factor into the equation a bit.

However, Billins, Sieloff, Ramage, Kanzig and Wotherspoon weren't cut so I think it's reasonable to say Cundari was beat out by them anyways.

Sure, but then why keep Billin's up?

The most logical explanation is that Cundari had a crap camp.

I bet it had zero influence (i.e. Cap), there is one team in the NHL who has more cap space than the Flames.

I will be interested to hear the interview with Feaster.

I agree. Also, its not like they had to pay him more to stay another week of training camp.

Stajan will play wherever he's asked to play. Nothing is guaranteed and he's not in the long term plans, whereas these young centers are. they played him as a grinder before they can do it again. Backlund, Galliardi, Monahan, Stajan would be my center lineup at this point.
