i was not impressed with gio last season, and i think that he is is bit young. Glencross would probably be my choice cuz he leads by example. I think gio will be the one that is chosen though

I think Gio will be the captain but I believe that Scoreface should be. I think he has earned it over the last few years and leads by example.

Wearing A's this year will be Glencross and Cammy. After that, if either are gone by the end of the season, who knows who will wear those A's.

Gio will wear the C for the next few seasons before handing it over to Brodie or Monahan.

GlenX pouts too much, Cammy would be a good choice. Gio is a maybe for me. Maybe it will be a surprise guy like Baertschi, everyone besides me seems to have a hard on for him.

I believe they should not dress a captain this year. Giordano will be the guy in a year, but right now, the answer is "no captain".

Inside the room, Gio is the guy, regardless of title. However, from a media perspective, lat there be 4-5 accountable guys, and no focus on one. Gio will have a lot to deal with. All vets will have a lot to deal with. So I believe that naming 1 guy captain will lead to his doom.

Truly, if any 1 player is given the C, it is a recipe for that guy to be sent out of town before this team wins again. Maybe Gio will be gone anyway. But honestly, he will have struggles this season carrying the load as #1 defenseman, and some nights it will be horrible.

I really want to see Gio here for the entire process. From what I have seen and heard, he is the guy who will last. He has the pedigree to be a career flame. But forcing captaincy on him now, when everything is horrible, will drive him into a lower pressure situation.

Year won't make a difference. Not having a captain is stupid.

No Captian idea is a worse idea than making Lance Bouma the captain. I say Glencross because I don't care of he whines or pouts (which I think shows he is in the game and I see hi get angry more than whine and pout) and he loves scoring, he celebrates every time, and he loves playing here as he took the hometown discount to stay here. Glenny all the way, however Giordano would not upset me. As for Cammallerri, I wouldn't even give him an A. He's all about the money, doesn't seem to believe what he says about playing here, and I think he'll be traded by the deadline. Glenny is my first choice and Gio would be my second.

It would be comical for a franchise that sells out every night to send the message to its fans that they can't employ a player worthy of a C.

If the players are almost unanimous and the coaches agree and Feaster all but announced it, why are we debating. Clearly this is just a ploy to get the new sweater out there. Welcome captain Gio.

If the players want him as captain, who are we to say otherwise? Not our choice.

I think giving Stajan the C might just be what takes his play to the next level...the level at what the Leafs and Flames had expected of him. Its a rebuild! what would it hurt? Stajan was my first thought then I saw your post and I thought you were being facetious saying Stajan...But I think it could be the right decision.

I think the captaincy positions in NHL hockey are hollow and mean next to nothing, and I will be fine with whichever players assume the positions.

i'd prefer no captain, just 3 alternates.

Come trade deadline, any of the potential captains being discussed may (should be considered at the very least) be on the move (NMC aside).....

Gio is the obvious choice. Was his play suspect last year? Absolutely, but there is no denying the guy wears his heart on his sleeve. He is a warrior, blocking shots, taking sticks to the face, and doesn't miss a shift. Inconsistent play aside, he is the exact type of player that you want to captain your team. Even more so in a rebuilding phase when you need someone who will lead by example. Gio is that guy. He wants to win and if that means stopping a puck with his face, then so be it.

It's important this group has a strong leader in the locker room. No more of this 'quiet, lead by example' crap that yielded an annual group of fragile underachievers. A leader that's going to plant the seeds that hopefully help turn some of these young players into future winners. I trust the coaching staff will pick the right player.

I think the captain is important more as a PR/face of the franchise thing then an actual leadership aspect but I do think that is an important role. The captain is a guy that is going to face the media a lot, especially in difficult times, go to a lot of community/corporate events, have a lot of PR stuff built around and be a guy that somewhat is known around the league to other fans/media/officials whenever the Flames are invovled with them.

I think anyone in the room is able to be a leader whether wearing a letter or not and while you don't want a loner with bad habits as the captain you likely can get away with not having the most vocal or boisterous guy in the room as the C.

You definitely need a player who will be both vocal and 'follow by example' in my opinion. The last few years, it appeared that Iggy was neither. Gio will do the little things on the ice that will instill good habits for the kids. He hits, fights, blocks shots, has a good mix between offense and defense, and most importantly, he looks like Mr. Bean.
