Indeed. It would be awesome if he can also make saves and sell 50/50 tickets at the same time, too.
It's not comforting to know that this approach is being taken again to plug the holes at center. But yes, regardless of which approach is used it is ultimately the results that matter most. Time will tell.

Hartley was interviewed about that yesterday and his words were something to the effect of "if our best youngsters are centers, TJ will play on the wing. If our best youngsters are wingers, TJ will play center"
No problems personally with his approach.

Playing players out of position is not a good idea. If you need a 3rd or 4th line C, get a 3rd/4th line C and not a W and call him a C. Can put lipstick on a pig, but at the end of a day, it's still a pig.

yeah, that's really reassuring. If our young players can play C great, but if they suck we'll play a winger at C by default because we have no other option.
2 1/2 seasons since Feaster's been in charge and the glaring need at C remains unfilled. Have been opportunities to fill it but we've seen Cervenka (epic fail) and now potentially Galiardi? One hopes something else is in the works as we deserve better than these experiments.

TJ was on the radio and said he played center all through junior and his first year pro. He was moved to the wing because the teams he played on were Center rich. Not seeing what the big deal is about. Its not like this is his first time playing center. I believe he even mentioned he was more comfortable there. Nothing wrong with versatility.

its "officially" the start of the rebuild, and people already have way to high expectations for the team. puting galiardi to C as a backup plan isn't all that bad. We have built a solid crop of young Centers but it takes time for them to get to the NHL. signing a boyd gordon to a 3 yr 9 mil dollar contract is the other option.

This is more reassuring. Previous indications were that he hadn't played since minor hockey. Thanks for the info.

Going by memory, but I believe he played some C in the playoffs for SJ last year.

Is that really a bad option? It's not like we were/are strapped for cap space. Alternatively Horcoff could have been had for mondo cheap for a two year bridge and would have been a good mentor for our young Cs. I guess what is frustrating is how you see Nill come in as a rookie GM and solve the Stars C depth in one off season while Feaster's answers have been Roman Cervenka and Steve Begin. Yes, circumstances have changed since we've started the rebuild however it's not like Boyd Gordon is post-apex and having some vet help like Horcoff in position where we have struggled at wouldn't have hurt either (bearing in mind Horcoff's NTC which may have made any deal moot).

Yes that would be awesome. He would be like our Tanev. GREAT SAVE GALIARDIIII!
Seriously tho I think people make too big of a deal out of something like this. If there is anyone qualified to determine whether or not a guy can play center, its the head coach of an NHL team. And as far as I know, Galiardi has been known to take defensive zone and pk shift draws for the Sharks in the past. It doesn't seem out to lunch that he could play the position to a decent calibre as Hartley says -- if one of the younger guys can't stick it.

It doesn't matter much which players they place where at this point. Team is not contending - they are rebuilding. Even if Galiardi does indeed play center, I am sure that they would rotate some of the other potential Cs through the roster and get everyone some experience there.
Flames are rebuilding. This means there will be holes in the roster, players acclimating to different roles, a huge learning experience for the rookies that do make it, and a thorough organizational introspection as to what they have and what they need to further the rebuild.
No need to panic. Us fans need only panic when the team is supposed to be a contender, but they fail. Patience is going to be needed, and that is all really.

Option 1: Trade for a C. Wastes assets and blocks the kids.
Option 2: Sign a free agent. Limited free agent class, probably requires a multi year commitment for any one of worth to come to the Flames, blocks the kids.
Option 3: Do nothing. Just hope like heck a kid can play top 9 effectively and nobody gets hurt at C all season.
Option 4: Practice a wing at C in case a kid doesn't make it or an injury occurs.
Option 5: Have a CP over reaction with limited thought, exaggerated issues, no real solution, and lots of heaven squealing.
I think a kid makes the team. But having the option isn't a bad thing.

Clearly we have to go for Option 5. This being CP, it's going to happen no matter what the Flames do.
