I don't mind it if someone looks at their phone, but I absolutely hate it when people tune out the world when they reply to a text or email.

If someone asks you a question, take a second, answer the question....and then finish whatever you were doing on your phone.

I still have yet to encounter someone ignoring me for their phone (or at least longer than it takes to respond to a text).

You guys really have to reflect on the fact that the common factor is you. Perhaps you're getting upset over nothing, or perhaps you just aren't engaging enough to keep people from finding other avenues of stimulation. Or maybe you're just hanging around weird people.

Either way, cut it out.

You seem to be awfully defensive about this. Almost like, you know, you are one of those people who is on their phone all the time. Are you?

There's no shame in it. Clearly, the people you hang out with are too boring. It's their fault.

I actually hate browsing on my phone, calling people or texting.

I really just don't see what the big deal is. It's such a non-problem.

If I am on my phone I find an isolated spot to talk, I don't try doing another interaction like deal with a cashier or whatever at the same time, seems rude.
On a similar note, I hate when you are at work talking to someone in their office and their phone rings and they answer it. I'll get up and walk out no matter what we were discussing. If your phone call takes precedence over our conversation, see you. If someone is in my office talking to me, and my phone rings I don't even look to see who it is that's calling.

I agree. We have a friend who live a few doors down and this is exactly what he does. Unfortunately he always asks to repeat the story as he didn't catch any of the details. It is awkward having to repeat yourself because someone is too deep into reading/responding emails/SMS.
