Not sure if that's a bonus for you, but it definitely would be for your boy.

This is exaggerated. It's probably 3:2 - still a huge positive for guys.
I enjoyed UVic, but then again it's a seven minute drive from where I grew up, so I had a totally different experience than other people in this thread.

True, the 3:1 has long been their shtick, but after being there its probably not that high, still high though.
To also take into consideration, the weather is much better and thus the girls are wearing less for more of the year! Hmm maybe I should be talking to your son and not you haha.
When I was out there I was in shorts until I came home for Christmas in mid-December. Maybe people thought I was crazy, but being from Calgary it's easy to handle a little cold.
The weather is quite a bit different than Van I found (as in not nearly as much rain, but still rain).

This reminds me of a class I took at school. My buddies all took different classes, and I took one that was me, 2 other guys and 28 fit active females between the ages of 19-25.

For what it's worth staying home and going to school was pretty freaking rad too. Life is what you make of it.

I must say, I am glad I reached out and asked the question. Special thanks to those who PM'd me with more of their personal experiences and advice. Great input, guys. Thank you.

I went to UVic and did biology there. It's a great program, and the school is a ton of fun. The only downside is that you do not make good connections for careers (outside of academia) afterwards. UofA is the better place for that (although places like Queens, UofT, or even UofC would be better).
In Biology anyways, a degree from UofA or UVic is far more respected than a degree from MRU. MRU will continue to have that stigma of being a "community college", despite the fact you can get a full university education there. For more techinical fields, MRU is probably better, but for general BScs or BAs, the more traditional universites are better.
Basically, if he wants to work in business or the oil patch (yes biology can be used in those fields), then UofA is the best. If he wants to do straight out biology or academia, UVic is the better choice.

It's 3:2, but a relatively large portion of the women aren't interested in dudes. The ratio of women looking for men to men is lower than 3:2, but still above 1:1. Still great ratios there, but the ratios are exaggerated in this thread.
UVic is a great school, because it's the perfect size. Lots of community and a good bridge between highschool and the real world. At school's like UofC/UofA/UofT/UBC, the campus is much larger and many people commute. This means you can walk around all day and hardly see anyone you know. At UVic most people live on campus first year. You end up knowing a large portion of the school, which is both good and bad, but mostly good.

To add onto my biology expereince at UVic, the program there is respected, but also demanding and competitive. If your goal is to go to med-school, it's one of the harder schools to maintain a high GPA in. Also, the rest of the campus will be taking sociology (where you get a b+ just for handing in all your assignments), so it's pretty easy to get distracted and have a poor performance.
In Biology typically about half the class will flunk out/change to easier programs. Even then the class average is a B-. So it's substantially harder than other fields at UVic. Apart from Engineering and other hard sciences like BioChem, Physics, etc.. it's one of the more challenging programs. I wouldn't recommend taking Biology at UVic unless you are sure you want to work with a Bio degree.
That being said, UVic is an extremely easy school to change majors at. Most people switch majors several times, I switched twice.
