Not sure if serious but I actually don't mind this idea. Anything to bring in more revenue and increase exposure is good in my books.
I used to be all adamant that I wanted the good ole days of the Smythe, Norris, Adams, and Patrick divisions back but we're never going to see that again.

I don't mind it. Not everything is going to be rich in tradition right away, but as others have pointed out, the name makes sense and it's a different while also sounding relatively classy.

That's just over 13 Million and will drop once Hempstead is no longer in the division.

Boy am I embarrassed. I put in "Long Island" and not Hampstead. Proves what I know about the Islanders, or what Long Island really is
STILL! 13 million is still quite a bit larger than each individual division

I would have named it the Continental division. The teams in the division cover a good portion of the continent, from Montreal down to Florida.
Edit: Meant that the Metropolitan should be the Atlantic and the Atlantic should be the Continental.

I like the Metropolitan division, but it is out of place against the naming of the other divisions (and like Continental as well).
Perhaps Oceanic and Great Plains as well. Something that infers BIG!

Should have been the Snowbird Division.

CBC Poll results on the division names:
Should have gone to old Patrick, Norris, Adams, Smythe 42.82%
Anything but "Metropolitan" 42.47%
Should have used new names like Orr, Howe, Gretzky, Lemieux 8.52%
I'm happy with them 6.18%

Should have called the Metro division Atlantic and Toronto's division the "Center" div.

If they're going to go with dumb names, why not go with the hipster division. Make it something trendy to try and get new fans.

Does anyone have a map or visual of where and how the divisions are setup? I can't seem to find anything on NHL.com
I know which teams are in each division, I'd like to visually see how it looks on a map.

Never mind. Found this: edit: found an existing map and added the new division names. Cross referenced the teams to make sure they match the divisions.

So add 2 teams and create 8 divisions of 4 teams each. You can give the traditional names back to the Canadian franchises, keep "Metro" for the NY teams and Phi, and get the rest of them something better suited.

The 'Eastern' should have been named 'Atlantic' and the 'Metro' should have been named 'North Eastern'.

Looking at That map, can anyone provide a non monetary reason the cowboys play in the NFC East?

Kind of ironic that you don't include the metro areas of those cities in a discussion about the applicability of metropolitan to them.

I think it's terrible that Calgary (and Edmonton) are in the Pacific division, when our rivers go the the Atlantic!
