They need to do a Superman movie right first, *sigh*.
Maybe this will finally produce something positive for that?
This. Man of Steel didn't feel like Superman to me. A combination of the MoS Superman and a new Batman doesn't want to compute in my head.
I think I would need to see a MoS sequel first, one that gives us more character development rather than flashbacks and Dragonball fighting. At the end of MoS, he has just barely become what everybody knows as Superman and we only get a short glimpse of his Clark Kent, Daily Planet reporter persona.

Well apparently they had fast tracked a Man of Steel sequel after opening weekend.. now not sure if they still plan to go ahead with that before the team up.. but the rumored release date was sometime in 2014.
I also agree that Marvel Studios success is because of the great RDJ. That guy is an amazing actor and although he didn't nail comic book Tony Stark, he made that Tony Stark better. Which is a very rare feat in comic book movies.
If you were to take him out of the Avengers and replace him with anyone else, they would all flop like a fish out of water. They knew this, which is why they threw the bank at him to keep him.
If you stack up any of the other Marvel Studio movies to Man of Steel I still think MoS is a much better movie.. and TDK Trilogy stomps CA, Hulk and Thor into the mud, swivels his heel a bit then spits on the imprint.
The Avengers however, is obviously untouchable. Great job, DC will more than likely not reach that level. I've seen that movie 10 times already and I never get tired of it. I can't say the same for any other movies in the comic book genre.
But I think the real movie that is going to blow people away is the new X-Men, it is going to come out of left field and redefine the way we look at comic book movies. But I would also have Fassbender's babies so I might be a little biased..

That Batman logo is very Dark Knight Returns style IMO.
If the rumored title is actually Batman vs Superman I would not be surprised if they take some plot points from that graphic novel.
That would be an interesting twist, but then how could that lead into a Justice League movie? Dark Knight Returns takes place after the Justice League has been dissolved, and features older versions of Batman and Superman.
Unless it works just as a sequel to the Justice League movie, which might work, but would be a strange way of doing things.
They could still use Cavil though since Superman ages slower than the rest of us. Not sure that Amy Adams and the rest of the cast could be kept on though. So part of the story might need to be changed altogether to make it work.

At the time I was pissed at that news, but looking back it was the right call for The Avengers. It was hard enough to give all the heroes enough screen time without shoehorning Ed Norton in there as well, and it definitely didn't need more Bruce Banner in it

It's a shame any time a guy like Norton won't be around. I still think he would have been the better choice for the role. But his #### attitude and constant need to rewrite the script on Incredible Hulk just made Marvel think "No thanks."
I thought the Hulk was awesome in the Avengers. Not sold on solo movies really, maybe see how Ruffalo continues to do. But I thought they did an fantastic job with Hulk in the Avengers.
The Hulk just sucks. One of the worst superheroes ever. They should just do away with it
I actually quite enjoyed some of the recent Planet Hulk stuff. Impossible to put in movie form though. The stories are far too derivative.
The concept of the Hulk is actually pretty cool. A Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde scenario taken to the extreme. The problem is it's difficult to pull off the nuance of the philosophy behind it on-screen. It's the same reason the Punisher movies suck. There both always going to break down into some lame action flick with sub-standard special effects that don't quite capture what happens in the comics.
Not all comic books make great movies. Some might make great movies, but those movies would not be liked by a wide audience. Since comic book movies are always very expensive to make, you're going to need some kind of mass audience appeal to make them feasable.

Which is why they should find someone to team up with Hulk whenever he leaves the Avengers to do a solo project.
