all that matters right now is unconditional waivers allow the player to be bought out if they clear

these guys actually improve our dcorpse, yes that is how week our top 6 is.

i like russel, think he can be a useful player, same with shultz, and are young enough that they have an opportunity to be part of this young rebuild exercise.

A guy like gill is also valuable, as he provides some solid veteran leadership on a very young group. He's also a proven playoff guy, that hopefully shows enough to get us a 3/4 rounder at the deadline for a playoff team looking for a #7/8 depth guy.

Gill, Zanon, and Hunwick? Apparently it's 'waive your former Bruin d-man' day.

He is listed as 185 pounds which puts him in the smallest 5% of of NHL d-men.

His style of play is to avoid contact..... He has .5 hits /game.

Small players are great. Brodie is great.

As long as NHL hockey allows hitting there are a limited number of spots that a team can play an undersized player.

I'd take Hunwick. He's not old, played a ton of minutes last year, and doesn't even cost that much.

I've always been a big fan of Greg Zanon. I think he would be worth a look. If for nothing more than a daily look at the epic beard he has

So 95% of defenceman are over 185 pounds? Got any stats to back that up or is that a Ricardowstat that's made up?

Brodie is 6'1, just because he isn't 210 pounds doesn't mean he's small, just needs to add some weight. But then again a lot of lighter D do just fine.

Picking up a plug like Schultz in addition to SOB would be justifying Tom Erixon's excuse for refusing to sign with the Flames. Stay the **** away, our own prospects are better than these pylons.

Looks like there were 17 d-man under 185 in the NHL last year. Only 7 d-men under 185 played a regular shift come playoff time.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.h...r.weight&pg=10

So around 90-95% would be over 185.

Even in the context of professional hockey, I've never seen a guy over six feet tall considered small. He's certainly lean and needs to add some bulk... but at 22 that's fairly normal.

Yeah don't agree that Brodie is small just needs to add weight.

Brodie is the 2nd lightest D-Man that is listed as 73 inches tall in the NHL, the only guy lighter than him is Brodin who is 3 years younger. Only guy that is 72 inches tall that is lighter than Brodie is Erik Karlsson.

This of course is if you believe the NHL listed weights.

I am not sure where all these Schultz is slow rumors are coming from as that is not the case at all. Although not the fastest skater for his size he is an above average skater.

The knock on Schultz is that he doesn't play to his size. Being that big he rarely hits, fights or has much aggression/ emotion. However he has a great stick, really good positioning is very defensively sound ( when mike green was playing forward Schultz was his d partner and covered up a ton of turnovers) lastly he makes great breakout passes.

Him and Oates had a falling out has he wanted a mean streak, which he does not have. That led to the clash, however he is still very serviceable, and would be a very interesting partner for wideman. Or even gio, so he can go back to jumping in the play again, which he got away from last year being paired with wideman.

Zanon is an underrated defenceman, IMO. He was probably overpaid, but he is a solid shutdown guy.

I believe Russell has a history of conditioning issues, but I could be wrong about that...
