Got into Highfield via the Barlow>17th dealie again. Traffic on both east and west bound 17th/Blackfoot is 50 kinds of ridiculous. All SB Deerfoot traffic is being diverted onto 17th.

Anyone know if there's something they can put across or in the river just downstream that would catch any potential leakage from the train?

I don't know about this bridge, but during the flood on Friday I noticed a train stretched across the bridge into Inglewood full of tank cars. It looked like they were leaving it there on purpose to add some extra support for the bridge although it is possible that they just didn't have room to pull it forward or time to decouple it.

I also work on Highfield. I managed to barely miss all of the traffic on my way in from the SE. I have never seen so much traffic on southbound Blackfoot at 6 AM since I started here.

"Officials say the high water in area waterways would make it very challenging for them to contain any leaks from the train cargo, as river booms would be tough to deploy."

News was just talking about that - they figure the river is moving too fast and too high still.

Each car contains 80,000 lbs of petroleum product, I think they said?

.@nenshi says employers need to let workers stay at home. Roads are clogged because of train derailment & emergency crews can't get around.

Southbound Crow was a mess, but has been all week. I can't imagine this is helping.

Its funny because I had this exact conversation this morning. A guy in my office noticed that in every town hit by the flood they seemed to park trains across bridges.

Yeah, that's done on purpose to help hold the bridge in place. I would assume those cars were empty.

They are talking about tying the cars together with cables and securing them at both ends with D9 cats. Then they will pump out the product into empty cars and bring in cranes to remove the damaged cars.
