Sather makes some idiot signings but he always finds a way to rid of them and it doesn't look like he'll be fired anytime soon (though he should be).

My guess is Letang/Lecavalier to Rangers

Canucks have a few guys I could see them interested in

Gaunce and Jensen up front

Corrado or McNally on D

Lack is movable for the Canucks now that they signed the Swedish goalie Eriksson

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 11s Hearing that Letang camp informed Penguins earlier tonight that they were turning down an 8-year contract offer worth around $56 million...

What? I guess he just wants out of Pitt. Thats the most he could have possibly have gotten.

Yup looks like he is going to pull a Jordan Stall... reject the Pens offer and sign the exact same contract after getting traded with a new team.

We should make a pitch for him. Top defender in the NHL with huge offensive upside.

The only difference is that he can't get 8 years from any other team.

I don't get his reasoning. $7M a year is more then fair for him and Pittsburgh is probably around #4 or so for best teams in the league. Chicago, Boston, and LA don't really fit either. Don't see the point from Letang on turning it down.

There must be something going behind the scene that we don't know about. I did hear that he was getting bad mouthed. Not sure by whom.

I read that people within the organization were saying that Paul Martin was as good as he was.

This type of situation to me just shows that the players don't really care about playing for a winner, or choosing to go to a team that is a cup favourite. They will sign where they can get the most money. He can go anywhere as he has a contract for next year and sign a 8 year $64M deal with the new team.

It is all about the money, never let them tell you different.

I guess he must think that he can get that money in a 7 year deal. The cap is dropping and there's only so much money to go around. He's good but not an all around defenseman and it remains to be seen how productive he will be when he's not joining the rush with Malkin or Crosby. His numbers are going to drop when he leaves the Penguins.

Not to mention how terrible the Flames defense looks right now

Paul Martin played well this year. I doubt they were saying that last year. If there had been a buyout period last season with no penalty, Martin would have been at the top of the list.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 4m Also told that Letang camp counter-offered with a long-term deal which would pay less than $8 M (north of $7.5 M); Pens said too high

But thats the thing he can't get an 8 year contract from anybody other than Pitt. He could get a 7 year, $8 million a year contract from a new team, but thats the same money as Pitt.
