Then after the draft, start evaluating other candidates.

But I like Fred...

I want every presser that Shanny holds to include the phrase "This was not an illegal check to the head".

"In the 2013 NHL Entry draft, the Calgary Flames pick from [insert city/state], [insert prospect name]. This was not an illegal check to the head. This was a draft selection."

Shanahan would be intriguing though. Unlike the other names, he doesn't have a history of being a me-first attention whore.
I have no clue about Shanahan's ability - Bettman thought enough of him to give him a job, so that's something. I do know that I am convinced that the Flames are currently run by buffoons, so this can only be a positive... unless Kevin Lowe/Mike Milbury are looking for jobs...

Crazy in the good way or crazy in the bad way? Is this guy even reliable?

Makes sense from an industry standpoint. King being involved in the new arena is something I expected to see, focusing less time on the Hockey Operations side of things.

The draft itself probably wouldn't be an issue because the list is the list and you would trust your scouts, but making trades before/at the draft would be where you'd want someone who's comfortable in the position.

One thing with Shanahan is that he has needed to be very familiar with almost every player in the league over the last couple of seasons, so he'd likely be able to step in to the GM's role pretty easily.

I wonder if people might be mixed up on this and Feaster could be taking over as team president and Shanny stepping in as GM?

I can't imagine that they'd keep Feaster around if he was going to be replaced prior to the draft, even if they can't officially hire Shanahan until the Finals are over.

Interesting that Dowbiggen is the only one saying anything about this. You'd figure someone from TSN/Sportsnet would know something if it was indeed a major figure like Shanahan.

Not sure if serious... but he was a former Calgary Herald and Globe and Mail writer.

Covered the Flames and even did some stuff on the Fan 960 for a while.

I would love that. The connections are strong and he obviously knows the city.
Lots of good choices though, and as Swayze states, he probably loves his current job.

I don't often agree with his opinions, but he is very connected and established in the hockey world.
